Pregnant woman nearly gives birth at Glastonbury

Posted Mon 28 Jun 2010 11:50 BST by Music Editor in Behind The Music
Being heavily pregnant wasn't enough to deter one intrepid festival-goer. 30-year-old Victoria Iremonger realised she was about to go into labour shortly after arriving at the Glastonbury Festival site on Wednesday.

After a visit to the festival's medical tent, doctors confirmed that her waters had broken and she was due to give birth imminently.

Although Ms Iremonger wanted to give birth on the festival grounds, medical staff insisted that she was taken to nearby Yeovil Hospital.

She eventually gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Reuben, at 7.30pm on Thursday and then returned to the festival the next day.

Speaking to the Daily Mail she said: "I was just starting to enjoy myself at Glastonbury when my waters broke and I realised the baby was coming.

"I never expected this to happen but it is a great start to the festival. It has really made my weekend. Reuben is a very happy camper seems to be enjoying his first Glastonbury."

The birth came as something of a surprise to the couple who hadn't been expecting baby Reuben to be born until 11 July.

I'm glad this lady and her baby are alright however it was a bit iresponsible
of her to take off to Glastonbury at nine months pregnant in a heatwave!
She was lucky it wasn't a completely different story.

Couldn't agree more, Samw.

How stupid of her. what a complete idiot.

How is it bad parenting? XD She was giving birth, it's not like she lost a three year old around the park. She had a baby! Say congrats!

cannot understand her taking baby to festival in this hot weather

How irresponsible! imagining wanting to give birth at the festival without a midwife in attendance (the medical folk there are NOT trained in how to deliver babies!!)
Also, a newborn with pretty much zero immunity should not be exposed to the elements within hours of birth.
When you decide to become a parent, you need to sacrifice some things in life (at least for a few weeks!!!) and put your babies health and wellbeing first.
Anyone who does not see how awful her actions are either a) completely immature and/or b) bloody awful parents themselves.

Yeh congrats BUT who in their right mind being in the last few weeks of giving birth would be that irresponsible to go to a festival AND to top it off... stay straight after? Your poor baby's ears! Life does change when you become a parent - deal with it and accept your responsibility.

Alison I completely agree!

13. Emma -
I must be an awful parent then!
well done Victoriaand I'm sure Reuben is beautiful.

This story confirms my belief that not just anyone should be allowed to become a parent. How utterly irresponsible. I am a little lost for words at the stupidity of some people!

15. Kelly -
im pleased her and her baby are ok,but dont think she should have gone back to the festival afterwards.all i would want to do is go home after having a baby, and does she not think the baby is at risk from infection!

16. Ruth -
This is why some people should just not be allowed to have children! Poor little baby, how selfish can u get!

really great parenting-newborns shouldn't leave their homes for 2 weeks due to infection, so lets return to a field of dirty people and inadequete toilet facilities. not to mention the loud music, people on drugs and alcohol. shame on you!

19. Rebecca -
I agree, totally irresponsible parenting!!!

20. VICKY -
how selfish is she, takin a newborn to a place like that, with all the germs and bugs in perfect temperature conditions, what chance does the poor little mite stand with a mother like that!!!silly girl, where the hell are social services!
