Not since 2006 has any single regained the Number One position on the UK charts after losing it, but that is just what the Black Eyed Peas do this week, 'Boom Boom Pow' climbing back to Number One after spending two weeks in the runners up slot behind Dizzee Rascal's 'Bonkers'. Its the single's second week at Number One on its fourth week on the chart.
The highest new entry is 'Fire', the long awaited new single from Kasabian which charges in at Number 3. The track is taken from their third album 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum' which hits the shops this week and at a stroke becomes their biggest ever hit single, soaring past the Number 8 peak of 'Cutt Off' from 2005.
A surprise two way battle on the album chart is resolved in favour of Paolo Nutini who soars straight to Number One with his new release 'Sunny Side Up', home to his current single 'Candy'. His debut 'These Streets' peaked at Number 3 when released back in 2006. The runner up in the battle is Daniel Merriweather whose popularity may have caught many retailers on the hop. His album 'Love & War' enters at Number 2, whilst curent single 'Red' continues to sell with a third straight week at Number 5.
Finally there is a change at the top of the best sellers of 2009 chart as Lady Gaga overtakes herself as 'Poker Face' overtakes the sale of 'Just Dance' to become the biggest single of the year so far. Combined, her two Number One hits have sold over 1.2 million copies.
Full details on all the chart's big movers is in Chart Watch UK, coming on Monday morning.
Must they do this every week to the irritation of all the music blog readers?
