Chart Bite - Sunday June 14th 2009

Posted Sun 14 Jun 2009 11:43PM BST by James Masterton in Chart Watch UK

All change at the top of the singles chart this week as the terrifyingly young and needless to say incredibly talented Pixie Lott flies to the top with her first ever single 'Mama Do'. The record is the product of several years of patient development for the 18 year old, who signed her first management deal at the tender age of 14.

On the album chart it is the turn of Kasabian who fly to the summit with their third album 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum', home to their current hit single 'Fire'.

The chart this week actually features some quite extraordinary happenings, things that are comparatively rare but by no means unknown. Full details are in Chart Watch UK on Monday morning.

Is there any point to this Chart Bite thing, when the Chart Watch UK blog arrives just a few hours later? It all seems a bit unnecessary and doesn't seem to serve any purpose at all.

all part of jame's obsession- which most of us watcher share. keep up the good work james. very disappointing position for the Rod & Faces hits album despite havey advertising campaign

Fully agree.
The chart bite should be scrapped altogether, and just keep the usual weekly blog updated on a Monday morning, as over the last two months hardly anyone has bothered putting any comments on it.

Also, in the past, there were ocassions when the weekly chart blog was updated on a Sunday night.

Excellent analysis and comprehensive round-up by Brett Howarth every Sunday evening.

I like this. Yes it's short, yes there are not many comments but it's nice to get an taster on Sunday evening. It doesn't impact on the Monday report at all, so what's the point of scrappingit.

did pixie get entered into the charts at 1? is she really better than kasabian or the BEP? even dizzee rascal? this is why im soo confused about the chart.

8. gareth -
chart placing is down to sales - not how good or not someone is.

at the risk of getting criticised .. i say those detractors who feel this chartbite is a waste of time ... they don't have to read it ..... keep up the good work james .. i just wish that yahoo music had kept the format of the old .dotmusic when they took over.. with the rest of the charts (indie, R&B, dance) being listed altho of course we can still keep track with them over at a certain national radio station's website... .
