Chart Bite - Sunday October 25th 2009
Sorry if this annoys anyone but we have to talk about X Factor a lot this week, for the TV talent show has once again demonstrated its power to affect just about everything.
Storming to Number One on the singles chart is show judge Cheryl Cole. The sometime Girls Aloud singer was hardly going to miss out with her debut single after a well-publicised performance of the track on the television show a weekend ago, but I don't think anyone could have predicted just how well she would do. 'Fight For This Love' storms to the top with a sale well in excess of 290,000 copies. It is enough to ensure she has the fastest selling single of the year to date, and most interestingly of all this is a larger sale than that notched up by the first Girls Aloud single 'Sound Of The Underground' in December 2002 which followed their own talent show win.
Not that last week's chart-topping artist Alexandra Burke has much to complain about. In another frantic week for new album releases that sees the entire Top 4 of the album chart taken up with new entries, she winds up the ultimate winner as her debut release 'Overcome' storms to the very top.
More details on all the biggest new hits of the week to come tomorrow in Chart Watch UK, including the extraordinary way it is X Factor once more that links many of the top selling records of the moment.

Watch a similiar thing happen to Leona Lewis when she releases happy, no doubt she will perform on X Factor.
I feel that X Factor has too much power and that Simon Cowell is the prime reason, he has the power and influence and I can imagine that he sat down one day in the summer with a weekly calandar list saying to Sinitta they can have there number one then and then they can have theres then... number one forecasting at present is so predictable -
next week no doubt Westlife will grab it, though the song is really rubbish I have to say...
following week JLS - who are performing next week.
following week leona lewis
following week X factor 12 finalists
taking us through to christmas via possible Susan Boyle for the inevitable x factor winner to get christmas number one.
and there you have it - Simon Cowell congratulations for monopolising the number one spot. Its the not the artists I have anything against its simply Simon Cowell. Wouldn't it be funny if those twins win the show, I think people should vote for them although awful it would make a mockery of the show.. it could just happen, people want to take the smirk off his face and I think the show is peaking in all honesty and like big brother will ultimately decline in popularity...
I truely hope someone releases a surprise hit in the coming weeks which will shake the X Factor juggernaut.
I have a feeling Westlife might not get all their own way next week. Will be interesting.
If the twins (John and Edward) get anywhere close to the final week on X Factor, I bet Simon Cowell starts supporting them. Just wait and see. His comments will become less and less negative as the weeks progress. As for Danyl being in the bottom 2 - absolutely hilarious. It's clear by the way the voting goes that this show is less musical talent, more popularity contest.
Anyway, enough about X Factor!
Agree, another lame cover of a lame song by Westlife.
Michael Buble was incredible- as was Harry Connick Jnr on Strictly
As for Westlife, I just hope it causes Daughtry to fly back up the chart.
