Soprano’s Journey to the top of the pods

Posted Tue 11 Nov 2008 1:15PM GMT by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist
Kings of stadium rock Journey have notched up a remarkable achievement with their 1981 rock anthem Don't Stop Believin'. The track has become the biggest selling catalogue track on the digital download store iTunes.

Although Don't Stop Believin' only appeared as a digital download in April 2003, it has rocketed to the top of the catalogue chart with sales of over 2million units. Catalogue tracks are defined as songs originally released in the pre-digital era but later re-released as a digital download.

It's thought the renewed popularity of the track is due to its use on the final episode of HBO's mob drama The Sopranos. Sales of the track soared in the week following the airing of the final episode.

SPOILER ALERT. We've posted the final scene of The Sopranos which features Don't Stop Believin' below.

ok great song -great band but i would have thought that yahoo would at least have the correct picture of the band --the one you show is with Steve Augeri ,when in fact Steve Perry was the singer at the time -petty you might think but not to a fan who assumes your info to be correct --you got it wrong

5. Richard -

Yes, what's was Augeri. Get the 'duck' in that pic. Preferably in the frock coat and yellow T-shirt. What's the matter with you Yahoo people. Anyone would think Journey were a faceless, anonymous soft rock band.

I never saw the end of it...... does he die?? ;-)

Journey; absolutely brilliant band and Steve Perry had an amazing voice, very distinctive. Not the same without him!

I LOVE this track. Its my fave Ipod track

Yeah right...and how much of the download fee will Journey receive from the million-selling 'unit'? 4 pence (8 cents) per sale. That's 75p CLEAR PROFIT to i-Tunes for merely 'hosting' the track. The real winner here is Apple. Don't do it, folks...
