Soprano’s Journey to the top of the pods

Posted Tue 11 Nov 2008 1:15PM GMT by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist
Kings of stadium rock Journey have notched up a remarkable achievement with their 1981 rock anthem Don't Stop Believin'. The track has become the biggest selling catalogue track on the digital download store iTunes.

Although Don't Stop Believin' only appeared as a digital download in April 2003, it has rocketed to the top of the catalogue chart with sales of over 2million units. Catalogue tracks are defined as songs originally released in the pre-digital era but later re-released as a digital download.

It's thought the renewed popularity of the track is due to its use on the final episode of HBO's mob drama The Sopranos. Sales of the track soared in the week following the airing of the final episode.

SPOILER ALERT. We've posted the final scene of The Sopranos which features Don't Stop Believin' below.

Actually, ignore my last comment, it's from 'The Wedding Singer' when Adam Sandler's waiting for his bride to turn up...

More people outside USA are hearing this song now. My two teenagers and people of their age group all know the song and sing the words. I think its fantastic it is listed as a classic! And I am so glad Steve Perry is getting the recognition still.

This is a well known classic, shows todays youngsters also love the so badly underrated eighties feel good era!!! Not surprising by all the copied a regurgetated music of today mainly produced by Big corporates, or singers using writers who are nornally vaged like battery hens trying to look ofr that new lyric etc..

Great tune. This song was top of the charts in Ireland after one radio DJ took it upon himself to make it get it there. Sopranos made it famous. Very popular over here!

49. wendy -

billyidolwhitewedding...you are the idiot. I suspect that a lot of the people who are posting here wern't even born when this song was released. Let people discover music by whatever means they like...being a fan of a particular band does not make you special, it actually singles you out as narrow minded, able to find all of your musical enjoyment from the limited offerings of one band. Grow up!

An absolutely amazing song. I was one of the fans who believed that no singer could top Steve Perry, but after seeing Journey this year in London, I have to say that Arnel Pineda does justice to Steve's amazing voice.

So many people have the best taste in music!

not this poxy song that people love singing when they are drunk that song just goes straight through me head,i think it should have stayed in the 80s along with the rest of the hair, cheese and stadium rock

55. jessica -
GO JOURNEY! Massive Fan and great to see that they are getting as much endorcement as possible!

56. Tigger2 -
Totally agree with Russel. Steve Perry was the lead singer before Journey (the band) axed Perry due to a hip replacement for the lookalike and soundalike of what's his name in there now. Miss you Steve!!! Not the 'real' Journey without him.

57. CiaranC -
dat was the ending of the sopronos?? what a [profane] ending!!

great song tho

I have to agree with a previous post that the great music in the clip is the Little Feat tune and Journey, as popular as they are, are the musical equivalent of valium. Having said that I can't condemn them for it and secretly enjoy their stuff especially with Steve Perry. I can't figure out why someone with such a great voice has disappeared. Everyone has to see this live version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ip1zsUIosoA
Forget the Sopranos and see the band!

59. Baino -
