Soprano’s Journey to the top of the pods

Posted Tue 11 Nov 2008 1:15PM GMT by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist
Kings of stadium rock Journey have notched up a remarkable achievement with their 1981 rock anthem Don't Stop Believin'. The track has become the biggest selling catalogue track on the digital download store iTunes.

Although Don't Stop Believin' only appeared as a digital download in April 2003, it has rocketed to the top of the catalogue chart with sales of over 2million units. Catalogue tracks are defined as songs originally released in the pre-digital era but later re-released as a digital download.

It's thought the renewed popularity of the track is due to its use on the final episode of HBO's mob drama The Sopranos. Sales of the track soared in the week following the airing of the final episode.

SPOILER ALERT. We've posted the final scene of The Sopranos which features Don't Stop Believin' below.

Oh dear me 2m people with no taste at all as this is a truly awful song by a pretty dire band as well. All I can say is yuck and yuck again!!! I was going to call it wuss rock at it's worst, but to do that would be to praise it s there is no way on earth that it can be called rock wuss or not. I'll have to settle for wuss pop instead. As for jay saying there is nothing wrong with older music oh yes there is especially when it's this lame.

Great song by a great band. Check out the album 'Evolution', 1979. Some great tracks on that. My favorite is 'It's what I like to do'
and 'Do you recall?'. Don't hear enough of them. Great stuff.

Excellent choice, it's good to see that people still know what good music is. Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" has always been one of my favorite songs ever since I was a little kid. This give me faith in the digital download world. Here's a hot tip, there's a new and great band out there called KONGCRETE they're available on Itunes. Check them out I think you'll like them.

PEACE

JOURNRY! The greatest American rock band to ever come out of America. The only true Journey is with Steve Perry. Don't Stop Believing is one of the best Journey singles to ever be released. Although I don't think Journey was that big in Ireland/N. Ireland Don't Stop Believing has been played on the radio quite a bit over here. When people put down Journey and their music, they must be still asleep or tone deaf. Sure, Journey might be from the 80s but their music lives on. And yes again, Journey was one of the biggest arena sell out bands that ever was. I think there should be a push on the island of Ireland to bring Journey back to the top and let's start with Don't Stop Believing. Instead of just watching the Sopranos or Scrubb, why not listen to the entire Escape album. What a beautiful piece of work that opens up with none other than Don't Stop Believing. Someone had posted about the picture of the band that Yahoo posted. His comment was right about the picture. What are you thinking Yahoo? Why not put the correct picture of the band who sang the song. The band line up was Steve Perry, Neil Shon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valeri, and Steve Smith.
