Mallett's Miming Misfortune

Posted Wed 26 Nov 2008 12:09PM GMT by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist
Wacky wild man of the jungle Timmy Mallett was left with egg on his face today after claims that the vocals on his 90s chart hit Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini were performed by a stand-in.

Mallett's vocals were "shunted into the background" whilst the lead was instead sung by teacher Everton Barnes as Mallett was considered to be tone deaf by the record's producers.

Speaking to the Sun newspaper Everton said: "His voice was as flat as a punctured pancake.

"There was no way that the record company could release it as it was. I sang the whole vocal track and Timmy's was shunted into the background."

Everton, who is now a deputy headmaster, decided to spill the beans when Timmy appeared in the jungle.

"I've decided to speak out as I feel it's a great shame Timmy is going around singing the song when he knows it's not his voice on it.

"It was even my idea to insert the ‘Oh yeahs' and now Timmy is going around shouting ‘Oh yeah' in the jungle as if it was all down to him." said Everton.

Do you think Timmy Mallett was right to claim that he sang the lead vocal on the record or was he right to keep quiet?

Shows the headteacher in a very poor light!
Should have kept his mouth shut & concentrated on his day job. It was all for a laugh....remember?

timmy is a nightmare. what some people mistake for a sense of humour is actually massive insecurity and neurosis. he leaves a trail of irritated people behind him.

well it was origianly a hit for bryan hayland in the 60's anyway, so it's neither timmy's or the head teacher's, he should get credit. the cover was fun, who ever sang it!!
