David Gray – Instrument of Torture

Posted Fri 4 Jul 2008 1:33PM BST by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist
Middle-of-the-road Mancunian miserablist David Gray has hit out at reports that his music has been used as an instrument of torture by US interrogators.

The singer-songwriter's hit single Babylon is said to be the preferred choice of the US military in Iraq who play the track incessantly to detainees during interrogation sessions.

"What we're talking about here is people in a darkened room, physically inhibited by handcuffs, bags over their heads and music blaring at them." said the singer taking on Radio Four's World Tonight programme.

Playing loud music repeatedly to detainees is thought to be a standard interrogation technique used by the US military.

His music's an instrument of torture anyway. One track from any of his albums is enough to make you spit.

He's not Mancunian. He's Welsh.

I would have thought Maria Carey would be more suitable for torturing suspects ears.

I thought the abu graib naked human pyramid was the most degrading thing these people had to put up with. Playing David Gray at them is just inhumane.

This is a bit of a non-story really isn't it?

The disgrace that is the US Army could play any kind of music whilst they go about their usual illegal torture techniques and it really wouldn't make much difference.

I can think of worse music to be forced to listen to.

yea funny story, the bottom line is the us are getting away with using torture techniques and noone seems to be bothered about it
