Tip of the Week - Asher Roth
It's hip-hop Jim but not as we know it.
23-year old rapper Asher Roth is gradually weaving his way into the nation's consciousness with his debut single ‘I Love College' with numerous plays on Radio 1 and a slot on their c-list scheduled for next week.
Touted as middle class hip-hop for a middle class audience, you can't fault him for his honesty and ‘I Love College' certainly does what it says on the tin.
Roth's homage to cheap pizza, free flowing beer and the numerous joys of being a student conjure up memoires of House of Pain's 'Jump Around' or Reef's 'Put Your Hands Up', albeit if the bands had swallowed a sack of ketamine before they'd entered the recording studio.
With his debut album, Asleep in the Bread Aisle, set for release on in April, time will only tell whether Asher Roth can overcome the novelty tag or will be destined to spend the rest of his days languishing in the bargain bin next to Vanilla Ice and Limp Bizkit.
