Singer and violinist Alexander Rybak has won this year's Eurovision Song Contest for Norway with his song "Fairytale".

Iceland came second in the contest followed by Azerbaijan in third and Turkey in fourth place.

Jade Ewen finished fifth with her Andrew Lloyd Webber penned track "It's My Time" giving the United Kingdom their best result in years.

Congrats to Jade and Andrew. Excellant performance but perhaps the song was just too good for Eurovision. They deserved a higher place than 5 and the proof was in the live performance!! Political voting still very evident but at least the next Eurovision will be outside the eastern block! Should future voting not only exclude voting for yourself but also your immediate neighbours?

I much prefered Iceland to Norway, although I do think Estonia deserved to win.

"Get Simon Cowell involved" ?? Oh yes. Because he has a proven track record of WRITING SONGS. Oh, hang on........ (he PRODUCES acts - he hasn't a musical note in his body)

@33 Interesting theory but the demographics of Europe show that older people outnumber the younger generation
@44 Cheesy is what the Eurovision is all about. This year was a cheery, cheesy song.
@55 proof that advertising works?
@60 Get your ears tested - clearly the majority of Europe don't agree
@69 How is it a carve up when 35 of the 42 countries put Norway in the top 3? I didn't realise Norway had that MANY borders.
@76 so why comment?
@89 and pointless comments posted by w@nkers like you?
@91 I wouldn't call it favoritism when 35 from 42 countries put it in the top 3.
@163 and Italy :-)

To Yahoo Music User, no one here has actually said the UK was robbed, just expressing who they thought should of won. I would rather be from the UK and not come across as rascist as you obviously are.

turkey had my vote followed by finland.

thought our song just neede to actually get going with a big verse or two as it seemed stuck in the smae groove all teh way through.

still we did much better than previous years.

Sounds as though it was written to appeal to a Russian (Eastern European) audience even with the cossack style dancing. Smart move, not as good as UK's though

Jade should never have been there in the first place she is rubbish did not deserve fifth place

Personally, I'm amazed that the UK managed to score any points. The song is so run of the mill. Nothing spectacular just same old rubbish that dominates the UK Pop Charts. They never take a chance with anything different. It's always cheesy pop or cheesy ballads. The UK in Eurovision is always a bore to watch at least most of the other countries utilise different styles and put on a decent performance too. Norway are deserved winners.

To 174, i am not racist, just like the majority of the UK, i am sick of the scroungers turning up in our country because they know it's a cushy number and getting their free houses/childrns education and i was just pointing out that these countires didnt vote for us but are bleeding us dry. I am certain that 99.9% of the people on this forum agree with me if they admit it!

Are the Judges all pensioners as even my great Aunt who is 90 said the winning song was CRAP! and after watching that video i know what she meant,
"a fidle and a fairytale" how is that a song for Europe? they should get rid of all the old fosles who judge this contest and get people in their 20's to take over then you would see none of them would get voted for. .......................... what a shambles and a waste of money and to think they could save childrens lives with that money but no we have to listen to the same old poor song writing as we have done for years some one please put a stop to this.

If the Norway song had been sung by an older, less attractive guy they would have not won, no way.
This is a song contest, not a 'who do you fancy most' contest!

I agree it was the exact same thing I was thinking when watching the show last night. What annoys me is its the exact same people that are putting the country down saying that its a waste of space and shouldn't be a part of europe I think its just rude and remember to all the UK haters out there if it wasnt for this country Hitler would be running all over your asses right now.

I liked the Norwegien song, but it's a bit odd that he is originally from Belarus, thought this was trying to stop block voting?? I liked the Icelandic sing and also the song from Malta. Jade sand great, but the song was a bit bland. I doubt we will ever win again, but it won't stop me watching and complaining like we always do.

180. WILLIAM -
Preferred Iceland and Swedish songs to the rest of the efforts.
Jade sang well but thought she was a bit tight on her voice.
Thought Norway got the vote because they had never won it.
