iPods half full of illegal tracks
Research conducted by the University of Hertfordshire has uncovered that 48% of the music stored on the average digital music player has been downloaded illegally. The figure rises to almost 80% amongst teenagers. The extent of illegal downloading by one of the largest survey of youth music ownership has shocked the industry, which is struggling to cope with declining CD sales.
Former Undertones front man Fergal Sharkey and now Chief Executive of British Music Rights said "I was one of those people who went around the back of the bike shed with songs I had taped off the radio the night before. But this totally dwarfs that, and anything we expected." His comments certainly seem to reflect a growing trend, as CD sales declined by 10% in 2007.
The study also shows:
63% of people illegally download
Just 15% of respondents are persuaded not to upload because of the risk of getting caught
95% engage in some form of copying
Have you ever downloaded a track to your ipod illegally and if so how much of your music collection does it account for?

So subscription won out. The investors, who do the recording, video shoot, advertising and distribution of an artist get paid. The artist gets paid for the intellectual works.
Stealing anything in the arts, stealing anything from an artist, is theft.
Even if it is borrowed, or to just listen a little bit. It lacks honesty, integrity to be able afford something lawfully, cheating someone behind their backs...means we can say, dirty little thief, dirty little beggar, dirty little liar, keep your hands in your pockets. Stay away from me.
To lame it, well it was there on a site is inexcusable, if it is published and a price is put on it elsewhere, guaranteed! the artist was expecting to get paid for their work.
Someone steals from you, I'll lay odds on, knowing what you would do to a thief who gets caught.
For many years the music loving public have had no choice than to pay the exhorbitant prices impossed by the large record companies, to create large profits for their shareholders, pay their executives excessive salaries and fund the so called artists extravagant lifestyles.
Maybe it is time they all took a pay-cut and started providing value for money, then common people may be more inclined to pay to download music.
I am afraid that the world appears to have gone 'celebrity mad', but what do these 'celebrities' do to further mankind?
MUSIC IS FOR EVERYONE!!! DOESNT MEAN WE SHOULD PAY FOR IT NO ONE MISSES OUT!!!
