Britannia Rules The Airwaves

We crashed out of the tennis and our football team failed to even qualify for Euro 2008 but when it comes to music, Brits are in a league of their own.

This year British artists account for four of the five biggest-selling albums on the globe with troubled diva Amy Winehouse leading the way. Her sophomore album Back to Black has sold 3.67 million copies already this year with its overall global sales totalling 9.78 million.

Coldplay's much anticipated fourth studio album Vida La Viva takes second place with 2.6 million sales and X-Factor winner Leona Lewis bags third position with Spirit. Hawaiian born singer-songwriter Jack Johnson scrapes in to fourth but Welsh warbler Duffy beats Madonna to fifth place with Rockferry.

Elsewhere, R&B acts Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey take seventh and eighth position respectively. Rapper Lil Wayne takes ninth place and Michael Jackson completes the top ten with his re-release of Thriller.

Well I think the artists listed above are quite cool, and its nice 2 see quite a few brits in the top 5 it makes a change from when the americans used 2 swamp the charts.

God all those artists suck!!! Iron maiden are easily one of the best british artists to every walk the earth. Theres much more skill involved with writing their songs than amy winehouses crap. Her music is crap and so is she. IRON MAIDEN FTW!!!

If it was based on actual plays once you got the CD home, Maiden WOULD be in the top. Most of these 'top ten' artists end up on coffee tables around suburbia. Give me passion any day.

I'd like to take them all down the Rockferry Winehouse, let them do the Vida la Viva - get them off their swedes on Spirit, and Duffy them in the Jack Johnsons

Sureley Linkin Park should be somewhere up near the top they bring great song after great song, and im a Brit!

As for English talent Coldplay definatley deserve their spot.

What the hell have her looks got to do with anything??! Top quality album from a woman with a great voice. Also, Duffy has some great songs on the Rockferry album. If either of these were American we'd never hear the last of it!
