Powter’s Bad Day is UK’s Most Played Song

Posted Wed 16 Jul 2008 1:23PM BST by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist

Daniel Powter's dreary ballad Bad Day has become the UK's most played song over the last five years according to the PRS, the organisation that collects songwriter's royalties.

Kelly Clarkson claimed second place with Because of You followed by James Blunt's turgid anthem You're Beautiful. The Scissor Sisters I Don't Feel Like Dancing and Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars complete the top 5. See the full list below.

Commercial radio has suffered heavy losses over the last few years, losing many of its listeners to alternative forms of broadcasting. With playlists like these it's easy to see why!

The UK's Top Ten most played songs of the last 5 years

  1. Daniel Powter - Bad Day
  2. Kelly Clarkson - Because of You
  3. James Blunt - You're Beautiful
  4. Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancing
  5. Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
  6. Maroon 5 - This Love
  7. Take That - Shine
  8. Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Your Records On
  9. Will Young - Leave Right Now
  10. Gwen Stefani - The Sweet Escape

Kelly should be executed with the rest of them. They are a nuisance. I cannot fathom why people like this repugnance and endorse its interminable broadcast.

more kelly clarkson

Most of these songs are really good unlike songs nowadays such as Black and Gold and a group called the ting tings??? Corinne Bailey Rae had that one hit then like Mr Blobby's fan mail disappeared into thin air, as did Daniel Powter. The scissor sisters were good but they too have gone to the land of god knows where. As i said some songs are good but others arent in a way. Regards, Kerrie.

Ooooooh dear, what a sorry state we are in giving these people money!!I can only hope this is not a true reflection of the 'music' tastes of the nation...surely its just down to the incompetence of the clueless monkeys who create playlists for local radio stations!?...and just when I think, it's ok Si,it's obviously a mistake...someone say's daniel beddingfield should have been on there!!??AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH...OMG, ears are wasted on some people they really are!!!

Another poster said it all. These songs are in this list BECAUSE THEY GOT THE MOST AIRPLAY! Can't you understand? No-one chose them, it was just airplay!

I can only hope the people who claim to like these songs are pre-pubecent and will eventually grow out of it...not that it matters if anyone actually likes them, theres some dark sinister record company involvment influencing these playlists...same idiots that are responsible for poisoning us with x factor and other bowel churning rubbish!!!

These are most played because thats what the pluggers are getting radio stations to play.

Its about time radio got out of the pockets of these massive corporations & started playing music people really want to hear.

54. SANDRA -
Thought the last 5 years would have better songs but a few of them are pretty good.....but please Will Young.....NO!

Has Will Young got prolapse rectum? The way that he sings certainly suggests so.
