John Lydon Accused of Racist Attack

Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke suffered facial bruising and a split lip following an alleged racist attack by Sex Pistols singer John Lydon at Barcelona's Summercase festival on Saturday.

Okereke, claims the attack took place after he attempted to engage Lydon in conversation backstage however Lydon became "intimidating and aggressive while his entourage responded with a racist tirade, including the statement, 'your problem is your black attitude'." Three members of Lydon's staff then allegedly attacked Okereke.

Several other musicians witnessed the fight including Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson who was said to have intervened in the brawl. Spanish and UK police are now thought to be investigating the incident.

Lydon made the headlines last month for his verbal attack on Welsh pop startlet Duffy at London's prestigious Mojo Awards. He is also being sued by a female assistant who he allegedly punched in the face during a frenzied argument over accommodation at a five-star Los Angeles hotel.

It's very awkward nowadays. Even Naomi Cambell jumped on the band wagon of saying she was racially abused by BA. Personally I feel it's a get out clause for non whites.

I think the sore bit in all of that is that there is a difference between saying to someone 'your attitude' and 'your black attitude' or 'your white attitude. That difference is burdened with history, the past, which some people still think put the caucasian superior to the african. Allegedly, Kele was accused of having an attitude and being black as if individuality ought to be denied to a black person or worse, black people ought to crush their personae to the standard a white person expects, implicit from his anglosaxon point of view through history.

By the very sociological definition of 'racism' it is impossible for a black person to be racist against a white person! I think one has to look again at the headline and ask "is John guilty until he proves his innocence" I had always thought a person was innocent until proven guilty by a Court of law..... there lies another debate!
