As for saying before punk that music was bland,maybe so if you only listen to middle of the road rock music,there are a zillion talented black musicians who's careers have eclipsed the 18 month lifespan of the sex pistols.From pre pistols to way way after.In fact black music was at it's most dynamic and inventive between 1969 and the early eighties.While the punks of england were gobbing on each other,in the bronx was born hip hop,the biggest selling genre of music bar none at this moment.A movement that has genuinely touched the four corners of the globe,not one that has just connected with lowest common denominator tabloid press for filth and fury headlines.If it wasn't for the junkie glamour of sid vicious the pistols would have become Oasis and churned out album after album of yet more rock mediocrity that they originally kicked against.Pity it took a murder and a suicide to keep the pistols legacy burning so that lydon is still booked to play events where he can reveal himself to be an ego driven SI.
