Bond Snubs British Favourites

Posted Wed 30 Jul 2008 11:04AM BST by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist

Bond producers have sensationally snubbed British acts in favour of American duo Alicia Keys and Jack White to record the theme for the forthcoming James Bond film, Quantum of the Solace.

Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Leona Lewis and Duffy had previously been in the frame to record the signature tune but have been passed over by the film's producers.

Jack White and Alicia Keys will record Another Day to Die, the first duet in the history of James Bond theme tunes.

Jack White is best known as the frontman of rock bands The White Stripes and The Raconteurs whilst Keys has received international acclaim for her sultry brand of R&B. Some commentators however have expressed misgivings at the pairing suggesting that British artists would be more appropriate to record the theme given the content of the film.

Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli who produced the film said: "We are delighted and pleased to have two such exciting artists as Jack and Alicia."

What do you think about the choice for this year's Bond theme? Are the producers right to opt for US acts or should they stick with the best of British?

If Amy Whinehouse is in Bond film, I think the film should be shot in Columbia!! She would feel really "HIGH & HAPPY", I wonder how many people would like to see a drug addict next to Mr James Bond!!???

Jack White is best known for being a talentless moron, who claimed his ex-wife was his sister. Bond got bad when they chose that blond chimp Craig to play him as a whiny crying little girl. The choice of "artists" for the new Bond theme just tips the whole genre further into the abyss!

I couldn't be more pleased. And I for one don't see it as a bad thing that drug abusers (Wino) a moderate artist who's only made one album (Duffy) and Leona Lewis, a relaity show winner have been overlooked.

Again, Bond producers have shown they know what is right and not bowed to the pressure to be hip (remember the rubbish Garbage and Sheryl Crow Bond themes?)

Well done EON and I look forward with millions across the globe to QoS in October.

I think they should have used British Artists, there is plenty of good British Talent out there and after all this is a British based film.

brynmeredithspawton - what are you talking about? The White Stripes are one of the most original and unique bands around. if you'd ever seen them live you would know how amazing they are. the sound that 2 people create is unbelievable.

bryn, you clearly know nothing about music or film to say that!

yawn. not the right kind of artists in my opinion. the last theme by chris cornell was absolutely amazing, and the film was one of the best bonds films ever. i hope they make a good enough song, it's not their talents i doubt, it's their style...

They should have brought back Shirley Bassey. Her track "The Living Tree" from last year would have made an excellent Bond theme. The name's Bassey, Dame Shirley Bassey!

I think British would have been better (eg Stereophonics)

should have picked Steven Wilson / Porcupine Tree.... :)

I thought Ville Valo was doing it?

We all have enough problems without worrying about stupid things such as the theme of a James Bond movie. Yesterday it was about schools banning fake tan, today the James Bond theme, tomorrow the colour of Gordon Brown's bathing trunks???

Not exactly Shirley Bassey or Paul McCartney are they?

Bring back Shirley Bassey!!!

i dont see this as an issue at all - its not like every bond film has a UK artist singing the soundtrack. Tina turner, Sheryl Crow, Madonna, A-ha to name a few.

Chris Cornell, Madonna, A-ha, Gladys Knight, Sheryl Crowe, Tina Turner, Carly Simon, Rita Coolidge...Since when was it written in stone that the theme had to be performed by a Brit....?

Well im going to wait to i hear the tune, I hope they picked them on the strength of it. ALICIA is god-awful though with all that whitney wailing and Jacks gritty voice isnt really what you would expect to hear on a Bond soundtrack im sure.

Would have liked to seem Amy do it its much more in the tradition of Bond.

Hooray for Jack White. He is such a talented muscian who is recognised for his talent not for being a junkie, like Winehouse. Honestly, I am sick to the back teeth of this woman taking up inches in the press.

Shock horror! A bond film with johnny foreigner singing on the soundtrack! This hasn't been allowed before, oh wait, it has. Move on with your pointless story.
