Bond Snubs British Favourites

Posted Wed 30 Jul 2008 11:04AM BST by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist

Bond producers have sensationally snubbed British acts in favour of American duo Alicia Keys and Jack White to record the theme for the forthcoming James Bond film, Quantum of the Solace.

Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Leona Lewis and Duffy had previously been in the frame to record the signature tune but have been passed over by the film's producers.

Jack White and Alicia Keys will record Another Day to Die, the first duet in the history of James Bond theme tunes.

Jack White is best known as the frontman of rock bands The White Stripes and The Raconteurs whilst Keys has received international acclaim for her sultry brand of R&B. Some commentators however have expressed misgivings at the pairing suggesting that British artists would be more appropriate to record the theme given the content of the film.

Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli who produced the film said: "We are delighted and pleased to have two such exciting artists as Jack and Alicia."

What do you think about the choice for this year's Bond theme? Are the producers right to opt for US acts or should they stick with the best of British?

how about the tellytubbies?

This isn't the first time american artists have recorded for a bond movie, so why the fuss now? Sheryl crow and Tina Turner did tunes for Bond movies in the past - all that matters is that the tune (and the film) is good.

at least its not the white stripes perhaps the producer can make jack sound slightly less crap than usual.

What's the problem? It won't be the first time a Bond theme has been preformed by a non Brit.

Would be no good choosing Amy W as she would be dead by the time the film came out.

Ha Ha! That made me smile, but what are you on about man? Daniel Craig is the best Bond since... well just THE best Bond!

Why don't we wait for the track to come out before passing judgement, i'll comment when hear it,

The English artists who were chosen are crap!! I much rather have good american singers record the album than rubbish English singers. Another thing, What about Scotland? We get completely ignored all the time!

Crazy...they have overlooked the theme to 'Steptoe and Son' again!!!

Would have been appropriate as Daniel Craig looks like the old man when he is pouting and he is also 5 foot tall.

I would love to hear a bond theme from Muse.
They have the right guitar sound and would be very capable of coming up with the goods as well as keeping it British, also Matt Bellemy's father was in a 60's instrumental band called the Tornado's and there sound was very like the James Bond surf style guitar sound of the original movies.
i am sure however that Jack white will capture the essence of the Bond soundtracks with a good guitar sound and Alicia Keys is very talented, i look forward to hearing the score.

must admit i thought leona or amy would have got the theme song....but no problem...can't wait to see this next bond film!

It's ridiculous, Bond is British, and the music always seems to reflect that fact. Now we are going to have some drawling and inept lyrics unless the song is written by a Brit ? It may as well be called Quantum Jump !

Should have choosen Tina turner again, as she was passed on the last film soundtrack , shame.

Who gives a crap? Quite frankly, as long as Daniel Craig emerges from the sea in THOSE swimming trunks again, who cares about the theme tune?
P.S: I LOVED the Duran Duran Bond theme!
(Yes I know that film was s**t!) x

Does anyone really care that much?

Exactly.

Only this country now rewards drug addicts and complete tossers. Kate Moss, pete doherty...amy winehouse..... the message to youngsters....

Snort snort = fame fame

This is the new message...the bond guys have sent... we don't care how big amy is... but they don't want to be aligned with anyone with a drugs past.

Amy.. you'll never see this post... but i really hope someone relays it to you... This is what you deserve for not taking control of your life and problems.... There is no upward career path for a drug addict..

you shouldn't have said no no no when they tried to send you to rehab.... should you?

Very happy bond fan that Winehouse and other nobodies have been put into touch.

Very happy indeed.

As long as it sounds good and becomes an emblem for the film does it really matter who sings?
