Bond Snubs British Favourites

Posted Wed 30 Jul 2008 11:04AM BST by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist

Bond producers have sensationally snubbed British acts in favour of American duo Alicia Keys and Jack White to record the theme for the forthcoming James Bond film, Quantum of the Solace.

Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Leona Lewis and Duffy had previously been in the frame to record the signature tune but have been passed over by the film's producers.

Jack White and Alicia Keys will record Another Day to Die, the first duet in the history of James Bond theme tunes.

Jack White is best known as the frontman of rock bands The White Stripes and The Raconteurs whilst Keys has received international acclaim for her sultry brand of R&B. Some commentators however have expressed misgivings at the pairing suggesting that British artists would be more appropriate to record the theme given the content of the film.

Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli who produced the film said: "We are delighted and pleased to have two such exciting artists as Jack and Alicia."

What do you think about the choice for this year's Bond theme? Are the producers right to opt for US acts or should they stick with the best of British?

Can't any edge to a amercian singing the theme song to a brithish film, have the producers been offered any amercian money?

Amy winehouse has got a problem. She needs help. Quite a few celebs have had a prob. It must have something to do with being in the spotlight. Earning good money easily pays for their habit. The question is though she is in a bad place and ppl who put her down shouldnt. If it was you or a close member of your family you would'nt put them down, you would bting them up and help them.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you british think everything is your right, get a life a earn it thru hard work.winehouse is good, but hasn't earned to perform for the bond stuff(drugy)

this article is textbook case of making a negative story out of another story.

Or at least it would a textbook case had it been accurate. Mark Ronson & Amy Winhouse abandoned writing and recording sessions for the theme sometime ago and so the producers had to find somebody else to do the job.

A snub it is not.

I think the choice of Alicia Keys and Jack White is a far better choice than any of the British acts mentioned. With the exception of maybe Leona Lewis there are few British acts with the ability to write and perform a truly memorable Bond theme tune and I think the decision to use Keys and White is a sensible and worthy choice.

I'm just glad it's not Amy Winehouse who is so tacky, unkempt and gross, it's an embarrassment to watch her antics. Also very overrated.

Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, and Carly Simon, amongst other non-British artists have done the Bond theme song, so what's the problem?

Previous themes have come from Nancy Sinatra (USA), Carly Simon (USA), A-ha (Norway), Gladys Knight (USA), Tina Turner (USA), Sheryl Crow (USA), Garbage (Ok the singers a Brit but the other 3 were USA), Madonna (USA). So what's the problem?

Amy, Duffy and Leona were among the faves because they're in the top five of best-selling artists IN THE WORLD this year.

I would say to the brittish audiences to snub the film and make there views clear
Nancy sinatra did one bond theme but you will agree nancy was at the time a big star in her own right and had a number one in this country
Ive never even heard of this so called duo
SNUB THE MOVIE AT THE BOX OFFICE AN DONT BUY THE VIDEO WHEN RELEASED

With the state of the American economy I can understand giving the job to the Americans. After all one should support their country. Sorry Britain but that's the way things are!!

I think John Lydon should have done it

I thinks its a fantastic idea - i mean, who wants a well known drug addict singing the theme tune to James Bond. I have no idea who Duffy is and Mark Ronson - Alicia is a Platinum Award winning soul star so i think its pretty obvious why they chose Alicia Keys.

Alicia keys is fit as .... sexy voice!
The white stripes kick a*se!

lmao @ emma_mcallister how dare you call the 2nd most sucessfull film franchise ever stupid. James Bond is incredible and I couldnt imagine a life without good old bond. You only have enough problems if you make your own problems. Anyway back to the main subject I think that Anastacia would make a great artist for a bond theme she has that unique voice like cornell has. Anyway I trust EON to have made the right choice and agree with whatever they chose. On a final note "Bond rocks"

BRIT OR NO BRIT, BOND FILM IS VIEWED ALL OVER THE WORLD, ANY TALENTED ARTIST CAN DO IT, I HOPE AN AFRICAN WILL DO IT THIS TIME AROUND.

78. Kelly -
Stars can not be good role models in anyway, especially if they are using drugs, proper drunk falling about the place. anorexic bulemic. worrying about their weight, who cares. its not healthy to look as skinny as half of them, and they do look ill in the face which you always know. and for ppl who do have a weight prob, which half of the celebs who are a 12 think thats big and would rather be a size 6.Its not fair on those type of ppl. And it aint fair ppl in poorer countries starving and not because they want to. Ppl never think about that.
