Bond Snubs British Favourites

Posted Wed 30 Jul 2008 11:04AM BST by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist

Bond producers have sensationally snubbed British acts in favour of American duo Alicia Keys and Jack White to record the theme for the forthcoming James Bond film, Quantum of the Solace.

Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Leona Lewis and Duffy had previously been in the frame to record the signature tune but have been passed over by the film's producers.

Jack White and Alicia Keys will record Another Day to Die, the first duet in the history of James Bond theme tunes.

Jack White is best known as the frontman of rock bands The White Stripes and The Raconteurs whilst Keys has received international acclaim for her sultry brand of R&B. Some commentators however have expressed misgivings at the pairing suggesting that British artists would be more appropriate to record the theme given the content of the film.

Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli who produced the film said: "We are delighted and pleased to have two such exciting artists as Jack and Alicia."

What do you think about the choice for this year's Bond theme? Are the producers right to opt for US acts or should they stick with the best of British?

Hmm, so Madonna, Tina Turner and A-Ha were all British? What a ridiculous headline - report the news as it is, and stop trying to sensationalise it by trying to wind up the Brits.

Gary Numan should have done it.

the folks at ION understand what they are doing. and they have done it well for years.

i have no doubt, a lot of proper delibrate thought goes in to the ingredients for a bond movie.

let then pick who they want.

85. TREVOR -
lets get real, no junkies, Bond is British and deserves some one with credit not a drug overdosed idiot like winehouse.

I think this. WHO GIVES A SHI*!!!
What they should do is STOP making James bond films! They are all the same! The only thing that changes is the fu***** actor! James bond sucks! The only reason this movie is called QUANTUM OF SOLACE is to fit the ''007'' in title. Is this the best britain has to offer?...Oh, I forgot, Harry potter. LOL!

If amy whinehouse did the theme to james bond im prity sure it would be the last bond film!!! she is rubbish and a compleate waist of space.. thank god there going to america... they might be able to find some good talent for it!!

Excuse me please...but WHO is Jack White? Never heard of him, sorry.

Yea i agree. I would'nt use a junkie. You would'nt use a junkie clown at your kids party for example

cant beleive that Amy Winehouse is even in the reckoning for a Bond theme. Like queen joef and many others i find the media coverage of this woman tiresome. The portrayal of her as some kind of victim is pathetic - she has chosen the path she's taken and has no-one to blame for her troubles but herself.

I'm thrilled about this actually! Amy Winehouse never deserved to win 5 Grammys, Mark Ronson should not have won Best Male at The Brits (Mika was robbed) As for Leona Lewis, she's only got where she is because of Simon Cowell continually plugging her. So it doesn't bother me at all that Americans are recording the Bond theme.

Carly Simon,Louis Armstrong, Nancy Sinatra, Gladys Knight,Tina Turner, the list of Amrican artists singing Bond themes is endless. I only hope that this time the song will be good enough to remember! (Can many people name the vocalist on Casino Royale?) Can't wait for QoS release in October.
An avid Bond fan.

'Bond producers have sensationally snubbed British acts in favour of American duo' - so what's new? How can it be sensational when an American singer created the song for Casino Royale? Either the media has a severe lack of memory (because let's face it, they very rarely deal with facts and researching who did in fact sing on the last soundtrack would have been way too much effort) or yet again, they are blowing all things out of proportion. It would appear we are living in a world of drama queens. Oh joy.

Why on earth would anyone in their right mind what to use Amy Winehouse. Why? What would possess you to do something so incredibly stupid. It is enough that the public already accepts the way she behaves. Is this how the English want the rest of the world to see them as? Filthy, pot smoking, crack head and agressive drunk!?

All these comments about Wino being a 'druggie'. Not sure that Jack White is as pure as the driven snow - I know one thing though - he's got more talent for music in his little toe than Amy Winehouse ever had in her whole addled body. As for Mark Ronson - was that ever serious? What would he give us as a theme tune? Another ropey cover of a Smiths song with lots of jazzy horns in it? He doesn't make music, he makes irritating muzac for lift pasengers or supermarket shoppers.

Daniel Craig is a perfect Bond. Casting him has put the whole series of films back on track. If he stays in the role he'll gain classic Bond status. The rot set in with Dalton and Brosnan.

How can it be sensational when an American singer created the song for Casino Royale? Because the best-selling British acts, who many touted as favourites, have been overlooked.
