Bond Snubs British Favourites

Posted Wed 30 Jul 2008 11:04AM BST by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist

Bond producers have sensationally snubbed British acts in favour of American duo Alicia Keys and Jack White to record the theme for the forthcoming James Bond film, Quantum of the Solace.

Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Leona Lewis and Duffy had previously been in the frame to record the signature tune but have been passed over by the film's producers.

Jack White and Alicia Keys will record Another Day to Die, the first duet in the history of James Bond theme tunes.

Jack White is best known as the frontman of rock bands The White Stripes and The Raconteurs whilst Keys has received international acclaim for her sultry brand of R&B. Some commentators however have expressed misgivings at the pairing suggesting that British artists would be more appropriate to record the theme given the content of the film.

Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli who produced the film said: "We are delighted and pleased to have two such exciting artists as Jack and Alicia."

What do you think about the choice for this year's Bond theme? Are the producers right to opt for US acts or should they stick with the best of British?

Seriously. "The tradition of Bond" Mark Godfrey?! What a laugh! The 'original' bond would've had more semblance of Danny Craig had they thought to honour tradition. Do you any any other Winehouse fan thinks she's even bothered about why she lost out, given the state she's (constantly) in?
Besides, Tina Turner's Goldeneye was boredom-unto-death; there'll be none of that with Alicia Keys and Jack White. Anybody who's been to either's concerts could confirm that.

I'm delighted Amy Wino isn't doing it. Why does this useless excuse for a human being even deserve the publicity the media gives her? She is most certainly not a good example to anyone !!

I am sure the producers know more about the story line and are more in tune with the theme than anybody else, enabling them to pick the best of the artists available bringing yet another momentus Bond film with music to match. Can't wait

who cares, its not about who sings the bloody theme its the quality of the movie.

Amy is a druggie and talentless... why on earth would you want to have her as the voice of the new bond film? she sounds like a newyork taxi driver when she sings and just a bloke when she talks... and plus SHE A CRACK HEAD!!! jake white is awesome.. white strips... at least he can write good music

They are using a US band because it will give them free PR in the biggest market. Its that simple. Imagine the amount of US radio Play it will get. The DJ’s will talk about the film the Americans will go and see it and they will make a tone of cash! The next Bond will be full of American stuff – and the British audience will be sidelined.

Don't know what the fuss is about I mean nothing was said when A-ha did the theme for the living daylights & they are norwegian. Then you got Tina Turner who did the theme to Golden eye Then Madonna who did Die Another Day & they are from America. Not forgetting Lulu & Sheena Easton one Scottish & the other welsh. Nothing british about them at all. I think people are quick to forget. I don't care who dose the theme just as long as its the sort of James Bond Sound that we would like. America got my blessing.

I loved Tina Turner's one!

Goldeneye... I've found your weakness, Dun Dun Dun.

I think it is a faboulous idea, but though i am an Alicia key's fan (God bless her) i would have preferred christina aguilera. the james bond theme songs i remember anyway are Tina Turner's and Celine Dion's

I don't get why people like amy winehouse she can't sing.

Debbiegypt, what are you talking about? Lulu and Sheena Easton are BOTH Scottish! Duh!!!

Why on earth would we choose Amy Winehouse she is hardly a role model and her and Duffy's songs are so easily mixed around, sorry but they are soo similar you hardly notice the difference and they're played so often it is sending me to sleep. About the two picked, What a combo! a clean alto soprano and a mean tenor. Can't wait to hear the product of this dynamic duo.

i think if you want a decent bond tune you should try listening to ROB DOUGAN and he is an ozzie,
other than that SHARLEEN SPITERI ex TEXAS would be a good choice but ALICIA has a great voice and after seeing smoking aces she should be in the movie too !!!!

I think that they should go with the best talent...Amy Crackhouse will probably be dead, in jail or rehab soon anyway......

116. Rachel -
People should be chosen by their talent, not by where they are from. The producers made a good, reliable choice.

Sometimes, the things we say or do reminds one of the primitive times when only the one you knew counted. My name is Bond ... James Bond...Oh...Commander Bond! says the overwhelmed and utterly relieved passerby. So who insists that the unscruppulous James Bond is for the British alone. Is he a British or a global symbol? Forget this crap of the critics who think that only they the British could do it well. Ian Flemming never saw it like they do. He was a man of the people hence the creation of this fictional LEGEND. Other non British artists havde done well before with the Bond enchanting series. Tina Turner is not British and Grace Jones is Jamaican. James Bond remains the greatest screen HERO of our time. He also remains the only trully global rescuer of mankind in his hour of need. Barbbara Broccoli is doing a damned good job alongside her colleagues. Let them be. Besides, how many British citizens buy the Bond films. I have an enviable collection of all the Bond series. Take a census now and verify. Bond sells more outside the United Kingdom. I feel depressed by the insinuation that some people think that Jack White and the great Alicia Keys are not good enough to sign tune the 007. This is racism at its worst. They should change their minds now because, Mandela has been president of a sovereign South Africa. God forgive them RACISTS. Long Live the Bond series.

I'm sure the producers know what they are doing. I can't wait to hear the theme, and like the title. Just dying to see the film after following its production all year.

Lets get Real, the best duo would be Pete and Amy, High as kites, or not they have more writing, music and singing capabilities than Alicia n Jack put together. As they say its all about the Benjamin's ! Stay free ! Nuff said.
