Bond Snubs British Favourites

Posted Wed 30 Jul 2008 11:04AM BST by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist

Bond producers have sensationally snubbed British acts in favour of American duo Alicia Keys and Jack White to record the theme for the forthcoming James Bond film, Quantum of the Solace.

Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Leona Lewis and Duffy had previously been in the frame to record the signature tune but have been passed over by the film's producers.

Jack White and Alicia Keys will record Another Day to Die, the first duet in the history of James Bond theme tunes.

Jack White is best known as the frontman of rock bands The White Stripes and The Raconteurs whilst Keys has received international acclaim for her sultry brand of R&B. Some commentators however have expressed misgivings at the pairing suggesting that British artists would be more appropriate to record the theme given the content of the film.

Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli who produced the film said: "We are delighted and pleased to have two such exciting artists as Jack and Alicia."

What do you think about the choice for this year's Bond theme? Are the producers right to opt for US acts or should they stick with the best of British?

who cares anyway when the bond film comes out on DVD at least if the film is liked & the sound track isnt liked there is such a thing as the forward button on the mot control.

They should be British, not Amy as she is messed up, but someone who wont have a moronic accent in a british film.

what's the point here? If they can do it why not use them. There are more impt issues plauging people.

Where is the compatibility ? Are Bond films so established that we will watch whatever is served up ?

thnx linda e .... straight to the point :-))

british film should have a british singer singin the theme song. an american film wont let british singers do the themes for there movies so why should we. leona lewis is an amazing artist as well as leon jackson wit woo!

Just don't don't understand you Brits anymore..... i wonder what the Scots and Welsh willing be thinking about the whole reaction

Im starting to wonder if all the producers and directors are on drugs aswell as the artists such as that white strips idiot and that waster winehouse!!! Well its funny that we never seem to hear the end of them?!!!

And i also think that the film should have a respectable british artist instead of a yank! Considering it is a british film! Not someone like that druggy windging winehouse but someone like leona lewis that would set a good example for the image of the uk and also even for kids aswell.

173. Black Brother -
It's bad to criticize the artists because they are not Brits. I think they should be giving a chance to sing the theme song of the new Bond film. People made a lot of fuss about Craig when he was giving the role of James Bond but on the long run, he did a wonderful job and that is why he still has the role. Please wake up to reality.

how long will it be before they get an american actor in to play bond? the americans have to get involved with everything. not content with turning the best british agent films into "hollywood blockbusters" they have to muscle in on the theme tune aswell.

I don't really mind who does the bond theme, but i do wish they would get rid of Daniel Craig he is just the worst bond since well ever. I have collected every bond film but won't be getting any with him in it.

Being an avid fan of Bond, I agree on the choice....NEVER Amy Crackhouse,I am so pleased that never happened.....the smack head should be left alone....away from all the media hype and be allowed to O.D in peace.

177. Black Brother -
Tiberious ..... i do agrre with you but not the "O.D in peace". She needs help and support from all who love her.

crossmontayo: it#s a pity that you have such a feeling towards Craig :-((

Leona Lewis would have been an awful choice. Amy Winehouse, while actually quite talented, has negative associations. Duffy's OK, I suppose. I'm happy with the artists they chose (they're American? So what? So's Chris Cornell, Madonna, Tina Turner. a-Ha were Swedish!), although I still would like to see Muse and The Killers (listen to Move Away and tell me that wouldn't be a great Bond theme) record a Bond track.

A hello people you are forgetting what about take that doing the theme for stardust & the other group that did the gasper the ghost theme tune that was american movie I know stardust had british acts in it but they also had american actors two if you go back in time you will find that there has been brits doing themes for american movies. I think people should do a bit more checking to get there facts right

'Chris Cornell, Madonna, A-ha, Gladys Knight, Sheryl Crowe, Tina Turner, Carly Simon, Rita Coolidge...Since when was it written in stone that the theme had to be performed by a Brit....?'

My thoughts exactly! Let's hear it first and THEN slag it eh!?! Wino needs to sort herself out first but mayb in the future she'd be a great choice! Time will tell....
