Katy Perry in Knife Controversy

Posted Wed 22 Oct 2008 11:46AM BST by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist

Pop sensation Katy Perry has caused outrage in the UK after a photo of her posing with a knife was discovered on the internet.

The picture was part of a series of photos taken to promote her debut album One of the Boys but was discarded as a leading image.

Perry who is best known for her single I Kissed A Girl which topped the UK charts earlier in the year, is still to comment on the picture.

Richard Taylor, father of knife victim Damilola Taylor, told The Sun newspaper "This woman's behaviour is unacceptable.

"She must be out of her mind to pose for a picture like this. There is nothing glamorous about knives - they wreck families."

What are your thoughts on the photograph? Is Katy at fault for posing with a deadly weapon or are media being too sensitive?  Could this picture influence young people to carry knives or is it  simply a harmless PR stunt?

What's bad with a knife anyway??
The media is so corrupted... non-mainstreams already been left, talentless people are "in" (sarcasm). Now sensitive on just a knife.

It could be dangerous for people as it does influence them for carrying knives.
In other words, it needs to be removed, simply... bad, Katy, bad.

well,i think this is an influence 4 people too carry knifes, like Katy Perry is a grest artist but i disgrace her with this picture!!!

3. Yahoo! Music User -
she's an idiot!

4. Yahoo! Music User -
the lack of common sense shwon by people in the public sometimes is astonishing. I hope she's not paying her PR people.

5. butterfingers -

6. JOHN -
She's a fool.

7. Matt B -
I saw her eating at a restaurant with a knife (and fork)...BURN HER!!

8. Julie -
Hate katy perry, she's a rubbish artist so i honestly dont care if she gets slammed for having a photo with a knife or not.

9. Stuart -
what an idiot, what message is that supposed to give to the young impressional kids that are her target audience. She should make a public appology.

Maybe I'm a bit old-fashioned, but I'm well and truly fed-up with the hero worship that celebrities get for doing bugger all. Most of them promote get-rich-quick fame based on good luck vs hard work and then have the audacity to drum up more publivity by being all "trendy" and controversial.

I think it is a very insensitive image especially to those families who have lost their beloved ones and to knife crime. The picture should be removed.

m, bangor

it might glamourise knives to some, but it might not.
Whatever...

SHE JUST SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE IT!!

It was probably some idiot running the shoot's idea - not hers.. but she should have had the intelligence to say 'actually no that's not a good thing i do that, as what message is this going to give out to kids.. and the press will have a field day.."

oh but actually, maybe thats WHY she did it.
Any publicity is good publicity for her - its a PR stunt. Dont play into her pathetic game!

Who are these idiots? Knives are neither good or bad, they just are. They're tools. It's the intent that is either evil or good, not the object. I'm a chef, I work with knives, if there's a photo of a chef posing with a knife in a cook book is that chef evil and influencing people? Of course not. What utter bollocks. You people need to pull your heads out of your arses and realise what crap you're talking.

I think its absolutly discusting - we spend ages trying to stop knife crime and someone dumb and stupid like her comes along and poses with a knife, glamourising it, making it seem ok and "cool" to have a knife!
Disgusting!

If this image had originally been discarded, how did it make it onto the net for eventual discovery...? Any publicity is good publicity and this is playing right into someone's hands... Shame on us for falling for it again.

Knifes are not bad ,.. its the idiots that carry them that are bad.. its a shame that a simple photo can be blamed for a death.. we are so p.c.now we all have a duty to p[rotect society... lets educate no discriminate..

I have mixed feelings on this... I don't mind the knife so much, I think that's fairly innocuous but I hate Katy Perry with a burning passion, the biphobia propogranda spewing wench!

It's not fair that they act like it is all Katys fault for posing with it - its like they are saying it was all her idea. I bet she doesnt choose thes poses.

19. s -
what the hell? its just a picture it doesnt influence anyone if you choose to carry a knife thats your choice. so when the foo fighters put a bomb on the album the pretender does that influence people to make bombs? no shes a good artist and it was found in the depths of the internet its not like she used it xxx

20. DarkenS -
Good job she didn't pose with a flame thrower, I know I wouldn't be able to stop myself buying one and then unleashing fiery death on masses of people.
