Katy Perry in Knife Controversy

Posted Wed 22 Oct 2008 11:46AM BST by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist

Pop sensation Katy Perry has caused outrage in the UK after a photo of her posing with a knife was discovered on the internet.

The picture was part of a series of photos taken to promote her debut album One of the Boys but was discarded as a leading image.

Perry who is best known for her single I Kissed A Girl which topped the UK charts earlier in the year, is still to comment on the picture.

Richard Taylor, father of knife victim Damilola Taylor, told The Sun newspaper "This woman's behaviour is unacceptable.

"She must be out of her mind to pose for a picture like this. There is nothing glamorous about knives - they wreck families."

What are your thoughts on the photograph? Is Katy at fault for posing with a deadly weapon or are media being too sensitive?  Could this picture influence young people to carry knives or is it  simply a harmless PR stunt?

Great PR - lots of hype........................ this is what these guys get paid heaps of money for - getting publicity - and as the old adage goes all publicity is good publicity.

I will certainly start carrying a knife now

What an irresponsible act. The girl poses with a knife the very day after a poor boy in Liverpool looses his life after being stabbed. She is due to present this years MTV music awards IN LIVERPOOL.

She should be withdrawn by the MTV organizers and replaced immediately.

This is 'just' a photo, im a photographer and have done some more controversial photos than that... Knife crime isnt a result of a photo or song (other counties listen to the same music and have same sort of art and they seem to be 'normal') - its a society problem, people born into bad attitude and a wide spread culture of being rude to each other...racial and religious differences, which seem to be pointed on every level of uks society...there is billion of problems, and this photo isnt one of them...

No way can Perry's actions be deemed as just a harmless PR stunt.
She is a senseless bimbo, in the media spotlight for probably the next three months then forgotten. But while she is noticeable she should show some modicum of sense towards her easily influenced young fans and more respect towards those families who have lost their children because of the mindless use of knives which she is advocating. Shame on her !

stupid whore maybe she should know what its like to be a victim of knife crime that would put her world into perspective. Even without all the recent knife surge in england its still wrong even 10 years ago its wrong. How is holding a knife good for her image, anyones image, images for 10 year olds? She might aswell be holding a cut off hand thats still bleeding then people might even say its art but holding a knife to promote your new album, what a stupid [profane] i wish she put that knife into her own eye for being so stupid.

this girl only has shock tactics as her talent thats why there was the har hoo about her single then this and yahoo is as much to blame for showing the idiotic story in the first place ....cause look publicity!

the stupid [profane] doesnt she watch the news about knives and guns maybe if one of her family gets stabbed she might see some sense.

She and her PR people know that knife culture is a big issue at the moment and knew the pic would cause a stir and publicity, she has already used the whole girls kissing girls pull on getting a name for herself, now they are just using a different method of making a shock factor

well...it is wrong to carry a knife as your causing danger to yourself and others...but she might've been paid to take that photogragh, but thats just my view point.

93. Chris Phillips -
Gordon Ramsey has a advert for one of his programmes where he throws a knife, shall we all string him up, no because its not the knife its the person, and as i'm sure he doesn't intend on killing anyone the same as Katy doesn't intend on killing anybody either, then theres no problem. ALL MEDIA HYPE

For goodness sake. People aren't gunna think "now iv seen Kate Perry holding a knife, I'm gunna commit a knife crime" If people want to commit crime they will. It's not like they've swayed me in to wanting to do it and if it does sway them then they are already unstable in the first place and they will have any excuse to commit the crime. It is a bit dumb that picture though, i don't see much point in it.

thats because shes a twat.

though I abhor the misuse of knives,I do not blame knives persay its the mentality of the person carrying it.When I was young I wore one as part of my scout uniform, at no time did I feel a compunction to stick it into anyone or that it was necessary as aweapon of defence, just a tool and like all tools should be respected and treated as potentially dangerous if misused

97. Yahoo! Music User -
Obviously the fame has gone to her head if she has no idea what a dangerous image she is giving to young people who may now think it is "cool" to carry a knife.Use your head Perry, not your overinflated ego!

Has anyone actually read the article? "The picture was part of a series of photos taken to promote her debut album One of the Boys but was discarded as a leading image".
Let's get some perspective, it was responsibly discarded as an unsuitable photograph and wasn't used, just as millions of photo shoot photographs get discarded each week and only a few selected. It should not have been made public knowledge.

SHE IS SO VILE

NO EXCUSES
