Katy Perry in Knife Controversy

Posted Wed 22 Oct 2008 11:46AM BST by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist

Pop sensation Katy Perry has caused outrage in the UK after a photo of her posing with a knife was discovered on the internet.

The picture was part of a series of photos taken to promote her debut album One of the Boys but was discarded as a leading image.

Perry who is best known for her single I Kissed A Girl which topped the UK charts earlier in the year, is still to comment on the picture.

Richard Taylor, father of knife victim Damilola Taylor, told The Sun newspaper "This woman's behaviour is unacceptable.

"She must be out of her mind to pose for a picture like this. There is nothing glamorous about knives - they wreck families."

What are your thoughts on the photograph? Is Katy at fault for posing with a deadly weapon or are media being too sensitive?  Could this picture influence young people to carry knives or is it  simply a harmless PR stunt?

lol... the world is so wak these days... i think posing with a knife is the least of her problems hey.... in south africa most ppl have some form of knife or leatherman of something at their disposal most of the day. i find knives to be useful tools. even if i was mugged i wouldnt pull my knife on the guy. that would be dum. wat right do i have to mess him up??
and still i got arrested for my lil pocket knife the other day here in mozambique. hahaha... but i read the law as it is written, and there is no definition of "white arms" ... so if i carried a spoon i could be arrested too. hahahahaha. the world is stuffed....
in short... big deal she posed with a knife.
how many kids these days play GTA??
just think a bit

She's a fool and Yahoo are just as bad for publishing the picture.

this is a bad influence because teenager are now spent most of time on the internet, this picture is showing the type of knife they need to commite crime, she is a stupid girl and bad role model to the public.

Her target audience ISN'T little kids. You think the lyrics 'i kissed a girl and i liked it' really appeal to young children? plus, young people would carry knives these days wether katy perry poses with one or not!

after being affected by knife crime i can safetly say, whats the big deal? its a talentless singer who makes money singing about a lesbian experience, and she has a photo of her and a knife, in a non-encouraging pose. if enough idiots over react to this whats next? a ban on restaurant knifes, i know... lets switch to chop sticks!!! :p

just good publicity for her,no thought for victims familys

I think if you look closely at the photograph, you'll see she is about to attempt to remove a particularly troublesome contact lens following a hard day as an intrepid celbrity in the turgid and pointless world we know as the entertainment industry.

What a tool.

175. Jane -
everyone's now talking about her so mission accomplished and we fall for it every time.

Maybe it's just a bit of clever promotion?
I'd never heard of her before this came to light. Now I have!

But please then, do also ban James Bond movies and Claude Van Damme, Arnold S, etc ... and, well John Wayne ... they are also not good role models!

She's not stabbing anyone with it is she!?
Leave the poor girl alone.

How stupid, I don't think it's bad at all. Who cares if she's holding a knife? If it had been picked as the main image then maybe there's be something to whinge about, but it wasn't. So no problem.

I think it's about time the British public woke up and grew up. I vote for the death of ALL celebrities! let's burn all of em, they are so ugly, vain, pompous, self-richeous [profane]s. Take Callum Best for example, a TV channel actually pays him to pretend not to have sex for 50 days... WTF?! Why is he famous again?
IT'S OFFICIAL PEOPLE! THE WORLD HAS GONE TO [profane] AND WE ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE FOR IT. Heat magazine readers! you know who you are!

It probably isn't her fault, maybe some-one made her do this to promote her song. You'd be stupid if this encouraged you anyways. However, she may have had tyhe power to say 'NO, I don't want to do this photoshoot with the knife,' but I'm guessing she was mainly promoting her song in America, and in America they don't do knives they do guns.
