Question of the Week: Should Ross Resign?

Posted Tue 28 Oct 2008 3:43PM GMT by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist
Unless you've been living in a cave for the last few days, you'll have found it impossible to miss the furore over Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross' controversial outburst on Brand's Saturday evening radio show.

The pair have been heavily criticised due to a series of answer phone messages left for actor Andrew Sachs in which Brand claims to have had sex with Sachs' granddaughter. The full story can be read here.

Listen to the interview in full below and let us know your verdict on this week's question:

Was Russell Brand right to resign from the BBC and should Jonathan Ross follow his lead?

It is unaceptable that with my license fees these two clowns get paid.

62. Owen -
Such an over-reaction.
To be honest it was pretty funny- just a prank phone call.
Ban them from the bbc? Black list them from working for the next 10 years? what a moronic comment.
Move on people, it was a silly thing to do and the BBC should be questioned on broadcasting the radioshow.

get over it... there r more important things... was just a laugh

they will apologies and forgiven... they r too much of a value to the bbc

64. Alan -
The BBC seems to confuse massive egos and arrogance for talent. They behaved like spoilt 12 years olds - sack them both

I had heard all about it, but made no comment until i heard the show. I do not like or dislike either entertainers.

I have now heard the so called show and i am disgusted how many times did they call that man?? if they had been talking about me the way they had discussed his grandaughter i would have been mortified.

I agree that it is different strokes for different folks but come on please that wasnt funny it didnt make me laugh.

They are a pair of bloody idiots who are not soley to blame. They should have been reigned in far sooner by the BBC.

To think i pay a t.v licence for those idiots to publicly insult other people makes me fume.

You are truly a pair of prize pratts and should be ashamed of your selves and sorry for what you have done.

Oh and that doesnt include feeling sorry for yourselves.

66. Lucy -
Oh my god, some of you clearly have not listened to this or are easily led by the tabloid press who love to jump on something like this. She is not a 12 year old girl as some of you suggest - she is a 20 something woman who is the former girlfriend of Russell Brand, she pre-approved the call and is now making an absolute mint out of the Sun posing in her goth undies! I'm pretty sure she will be lined up to be in 'I'm a celebrity...' or some other such crap and will go on to be continually given column inches in the mags and have an annual calendar.. it's probably the best thing to happen to her career. And her grandfather just asked for an apology and said he woudl take it no further.
Johnathon Ross is a great interviewer, yes he sometimes pushes things too far, but anyone who watched his interview of Colin Farrell will see just how subtle and brilliant he can be. And Russell is equally brilliant. We're bloody British, our sense of humour is our most redeeming feature as a nation - don’t take it away from us! If you don't believe me about Georgina milking this for all it's worth, check out her facebook page and tell me she isn't! ... i hardly believe her grandfather was suprised by the call!!

67. DIANA -
Comments like the pair of them made should not be allowed. When is the BBC going to realise that decent people do not like their brand of humour. Punish them both, once and for all.

68. grover -
Dear cicizoomer1, whilst I don't disagree with your general point I would argue that Jonathan Ross is not in fact a good interviewer.

For example when Daniel Craig was on the show last week, we learnt very little about him or the film but we did hear some amusing gags from Ross. This is the same with most of his interviewees.

The show is little more of a courtship between Ross and the interviewee. Just wanted to clear that up.

69. tommy -
they are a disgrace and should be sacked. If they had worked for a commercial company they would be fired at once.

70. Yahoo! Music User -
Regretfully these two so-called "icons" have been allowed to go on insulting people for far too long. It is time BBC put a stop to it once and for all. They have crossed the line of decency and we, the licence fee payers, will not tolerate such filth becoming the norm. Bring back the cane and give them a good spanking!

71. Yahoo! Music User -
That is totally out of order what they did! It was preaty funny but it was very disrespectful to Sachs family! I feel that Russel Brand should be punished and Jonathan Ross should get the sack cus wat he come out with was appauling. Even if Russel was hinting, Jonanthan should'nt of come out with that. I think everyones over exagerating slightley though, i don't think they should of rung in the first place. As soon as the answering machine came on they should of hung up!

72. Colin -
I completely fail to see what was funny about Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross's behaviour in this matter and anybody who did are somewhat twisted in the head in my opinion. I have seen more mature behaviour from a pair of 10 year olds. They should be sacked immediately.

73. Yahoo! Music User -
its what theyr paid to do

74. Yahoo! Music User -
I would have to say that, if the BBC had sanctioned this kind of behaviour on their programmes, then it's little wonder people think the BBC as a broadcaster is going down the toilet.

75. Yahoo! Music User -
Both should be sacked along with the head of BBC. We the public deserve better, and as for the ridiculous sallaries these two twats are on, It`s just crazy .

76. Yahoo! Music User -
no should not be sacked. over reacting

77. cass -
sack them cos they arent funny. they might have been..but its horrid what they did

78. Yahoo! Music User -
I can not stand any of them. How can we pay for idiots like them to be on out on t.v or radio. Get shot on them. Prats

79. Oliver -
Yes they are a pair of twits, but they never mean any true harm. I think they will learn from this and if not, throw them in the slammer. (joking) ban the buggers!!!

80. JOSEPH -
I think Jonathan Ross should have known better than to insult people the way he did,and not forgetting the other comic Russel Brand, they both should be ashamed for what they have done on live radio they should be severely punished by the head of the BBC.
