Question of the Week: Should Ross Resign?

Posted Tue 28 Oct 2008 3:43PM GMT by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist
Unless you've been living in a cave for the last few days, you'll have found it impossible to miss the furore over Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross' controversial outburst on Brand's Saturday evening radio show.

The pair have been heavily criticised due to a series of answer phone messages left for actor Andrew Sachs in which Brand claims to have had sex with Sachs' granddaughter. The full story can be read here.

Listen to the interview in full below and let us know your verdict on this week's question:

Was Russell Brand right to resign from the BBC and should Jonathan Ross follow his lead?

Should be sacked forthwith. He is abusive, rude and not funny, a right pain in the rear end.

162. Yahoo! Music User -
Neither of them should go. Andrew Sachs has publicly accepted apologies from both and that should be the end of it. The question that needs answering is how a prerecorded show, obviously controversial and offensive to some, was aired in the first place.

163. Yahoo! Music User -
Russel should not have quit, nor should Jonathan. How many people listended in? Just like the press to sensationalise it. Bernard Manning got away with racist/homophobic jokes for years. Come on complainers get a life!

164. Yahoo! Music User -
"oooh sack them, sack them" pathetic, clearly there is only one bandwagon in town - quick better jump on it now before a new one comes along.

What Ross and Brand did was clearly wrong, but the major failing rests with the producers who allowed the broadcast.

165. Yahoo! Music User -
I liked Bernard Manning, funny guy. Russell Brand is a bit of a knob really, not funny.

166. Margaret -
sack the both of them

167. neathguard8 skewen -
I agree with most of the comments that these two presenters should be sacked. I also think that the response to their outbursts is a general frustration with the direction the BBC is going and that this episode has acted as a catalyst for us, the general public, to express our views. The BBC is funded by us, and their lame excuse that they need these people to capture viewer numbers is a lame excuse. Surely it is television that makes these people famous, and without TV they would be nothing.

168. beaker girl -
sack them both, over payed and over rated the pair of them!

169. JANICE -
Sack both of them. They have got away with abusive language for years.
Lets see Johnathon Ross's face if someone left a message about his daughter on the answer phone.
Maybe Johnathon has got away with a 3 month ban but is he or Brant going to compensate the producer who has had to resign over the rude impertanant pigs.

170. ROBERT -
Strange how Mr. Ross can be very articulate and grown up when it comes to making an apology, especialy when his £16,000 a day job is on the line, when at the best of times he behaves in a most juvenile and trivial way and expects to get away with it. Just a shame that the head of Radio 2 felt that she had to resign and not Mr. Ross.

171. Yahoo! Music User -
What a load of fuss over nothing. I do hope nobody told Mr Sachs that his grandaughter sings in a band called Satanic Sluts

172. Yahoo! Music User -
After listening to the uproar over the past few days...just listened to the tape...found it actually quite boring....especially when I kno wthat she did sleep with Brand...she must have really high morals...she is 'Burlesque' dancer in the Satanic sluts...that name makes sense :-) She is just using this as a PR moment...what a waste of press time...

173. Yahoo! Music User -
To all those who are calling for Ross and Brand to have been sacked, why?

No really, why? Sure, they went over the top but 35,000 complaints....get a life. Couldn't be that most of you are a little envious whose lives are so sad that you derive pleasure in getting whipped up into a moral panic (for the uneducated, look it up - its in a dictionary).

174. CAT -
Yes Jonathan Ross Should go he is not funny

175. Dizzy -
Those guys were gr8 they should stay

176. Eithne -
No bloody way! This has been blown totally out of proportion! They made a mistake, but no one should have to resign or be fired!!! and a three month ban??? No one can compete with Jonathan Ross on a Friday night!!

177. Miriam -
Everyone is over reacting. Blown out of proportion. But one of them should go. This would end this depate and uproar this has caused. I think Brand should go he's just down right rude anyway. Johnathan Ross should give a sum of compensation and so should Brand. But that's just one person's opinion.

178. RICHARD -
Both should be sacked overpaid and irrelevant idiots

179. Ray -
yes ross should be sacked,he has been sailing very close to it for a long time, his comments were not acceptable, lets have a lot better standers by the bbc like they used to be.

180. Murray -
Very funny, producers fault for airing it after andrew sachs asked not to, no worse than things scott mills or graham norton for example have done on tv and radio.
