Beyonce Steals Songwriter From Leona

Posted Wed 5 Nov 2008 11:13AM GMT by Mitch Carter in The Guestlist
Simon Cowell was left reeling today after Beyonce recorded a song that was originally intended for Leona Lewis.

The track called ‘Halo' was written for Leona by Ryan Tedder, lead singer for soft-pop act One Republic, who also wrote Leona's transatlantic smash ‘Bleeding Love'.

Cowell was said to be shocked by the news that Beyonce had recorded the track as he had previously agreed with Tedder that the song would be recorded by Leona.

An insider at SongBMG, Leona's record label, said: "Leona's diary is so rammed it didn't look like she could record it until next year. Ryan didn't want to hang around so he gave it to Beyonce".

Although it's hard to fault Beyonce for wanting to perform the track, I can't help thinking that the song would suit Leona's tones a lot more. Listen to Beyonce's version of the track below and let us know who you would prefer to hear sing 'Halo'.

i must say this would have much better suited leona, if the song was meant for leona it should be pulled now and not be allowed to be released. sorry beyonce but that was crap on your part!

I haven't heard Leona sing this song yet, but I do feel that Leona has a softer voice for this type of song, it sounds like Beyonce is shouting the song. Leona also feels the music when she sings and makes you believe it.

i think leona should sing it because beyonce's voice does'nt suit it whereas leonas will because she hasna more brighter voice ,no offence to beyonce x

Seems Leona has lost out on a brill song. Well done Cowell you messed up again u could have bought the song and sat on it you've got the money and then we would not have to listen to you whinging!!!1

Beyonce always sounds as if she is gasping for breath. Leona has the power in her voice to carry a song like this, and yes Beyouce does screech.
Hope it doesn't make top of the charts, total rubbish

I have always thought that Beyonce and 'singers' like her who show their legs upto the crutch in the belief that it make them a better singer are overated and this proves it

Beyonce is an amazing vocalist, as is leona. I love the song and think they'd both do it justice. However, I agree that Leona might sound better on this track as her voice is much purer... beyonces is sometimes harsh and maybe doesn't reflect the lyrics completely.
This song sounds a lil like 'energy' by keri hilson... she would also sound good singing this i think!

I love Beyonce's voice and have loved everything shes done.
This is ok but you can tell it wasnt written for her voice. I'd like to hear it sung by Leona to see if its the voice or if its just not a very good song. Will also just say dont you think it sounds like the other songs Leona has done. B Mitchell
