Oasis Refund? Definitely Maybe

Posted Fri 5 Jun 2009 11:41AM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
Earlier this week, Liam Gallagher spoke cockily about the return of Oasis to the UK stage. Talking up their hat-trick of homecoming concerts at Manchester's Heaton Park, he told reporters: "In total seriousness, I reckon these gigs have the potential to be even better than the Knebworth shows", referring to the band's historic run of massive dates at the band and Britpop's peak in 1996. Looks like he couldn't have been more wrong, after the disastrous first night saw the group offering all 70,000 fans a full refund.

So where did it all go wrong? A power cut has been blamed on the technical problems that saw the band storm off-stage after just one song, to the sound of boos. They returned shortly after and kicked into "Lyla", only for the sound to fail again, with smoke apparently wafting from faulty generator equipment. There was a further delay of 40 mins before they reappeared, with Liam telling fans: "This is a free gig now. Everyone will get a refund", while brother Noel added: "The curfew's 11, but we'll play 'til they kick us off. Keep your ticket and you'll get your money back."

Oasis
were as good as their word, playing a full, 24-song set and encoring with their traditional set closer of The Beatles' "I Am The Walrus" before leaving the stage at 11.20pm. However, it seems they may already be regretting the massive payback, a move which could cost them £3 million. Towards the end of last night's gig, Noel seemed to be backtracking, telling fans: "Kind of regret offering you your money back now. Apply for it back if you wanna be a c*nt, we'll do our best for you." Sounds like fans will definitely get a refund. Definitely maybe...

Should Oasis give their fans a refund after last night's gig? Or did the band make up for the sound problems by playing a full set? Have your say here

If i did not provide the service im paid to give, my clients would be able to claim a refund so why shouildn't the paying guests be able to do this???

If they've offered a refund - they've offered a refund - end of!!! In times like this that are financially hard on us all (excpet the majority of celebrities and thiefing politicians) why not get your money back if the concert wasn't 100 per cent. to be kept waiting like that while they messed up - not once but twice! I would!

does anyone know how to apply for money back?

Stop pissing and moaning. If you want your money, go and get it. A lesson, never pay ponds for a gig ticket, you never get a good exchange rate.

1 pond = £0.12 at the market rate. Shocking.

They played the full gig didn't they?

You've paid for it, not payed. :-(

I saw Oasis at the Kenbworth gigs in 96 (?) I think. Probably the worst live act I've ever seen, and I've seen a few. They were actually quite boring to watch, very little stage presence and completely upstaged in terms of live performance by Manic Street Preachers and The Prodigy. Extortionate ticket prices and 5 quid for a beer disn't exactly fit their grass-roots persona they like to portray. I'd persoanlly get my refund and never see them again!
Rubbish!

Sounds like they should definitely give the money back!
You can't make an offer like that and then try to retract it after all the problems they had
And to top it off, anyone taking up the offer is then called a c**t. Good Job Oasis. -.-

I wouldn't pay to see that bunch of muppetts anyway. Good support group for Enemy though

I will never buy their music ever again

they are [profane]s - if they try and back out fans should NEVER buy there stuff again.

If they went on to play a 24 song set, doesnt seem that the fans who went out missed out on much. The people who should get there money back are the guys who had to catch different trains or whatever and therefore lost out on Money

He means; if you enjoyed it and you still claim then you're a c**t, and I'd tend to agree. If you really didn't enjoy it, because of the fault, then claim it back . . . simple!

haha sounds like a rash spur of the moment offer borne from frustration at the equipment failures. but if fans got a full set (eventually) then i suppose that its only right that they shouldnt get a refund. one way or another they got exactly what they paid for.

you dont see the shambles that is pete doherty shelling out lots of cash when he doesnt even bother to turn up for one of his gigs or is too mashed to even play a coherent set.

but its hard times in this economic crisis so i wouldnt be surprised if almost ALL the fans who went to the gig claim for their money back.

It sounds very hursh...poeple who come to those place coz of us calling us in such names!! Shame on them...everyone should ask their money back!!

Oasis - past their best and ignorant as sh*te

they should get in to politics they took so mutch money and did a bad job. pay it back.

20. paulbno1 -
They shouldn't have offered the refund if they weren't happy to give it back. But to be fair, by the sounds of this, the fans got an entire show, along with some extras at the beginning. So if fans were to claim their money back, it'd be for the fact that the show started a bit later than it was supposed to. If i was at the show, i wouldn't claim my money back. As a matter of fact, i'd be delighted that they even carried on with the show on the night. And even happier that they played their entire show playlist. So i think if someone wanted their money back, they would be a c**t
