Oasis Refund? Definitely Maybe

Posted Fri 5 Jun 2009 11:41AM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
Earlier this week, Liam Gallagher spoke cockily about the return of Oasis to the UK stage. Talking up their hat-trick of homecoming concerts at Manchester's Heaton Park, he told reporters: "In total seriousness, I reckon these gigs have the potential to be even better than the Knebworth shows", referring to the band's historic run of massive dates at the band and Britpop's peak in 1996. Looks like he couldn't have been more wrong, after the disastrous first night saw the group offering all 70,000 fans a full refund.

So where did it all go wrong? A power cut has been blamed on the technical problems that saw the band storm off-stage after just one song, to the sound of boos. They returned shortly after and kicked into "Lyla", only for the sound to fail again, with smoke apparently wafting from faulty generator equipment. There was a further delay of 40 mins before they reappeared, with Liam telling fans: "This is a free gig now. Everyone will get a refund", while brother Noel added: "The curfew's 11, but we'll play 'til they kick us off. Keep your ticket and you'll get your money back."

Oasis
were as good as their word, playing a full, 24-song set and encoring with their traditional set closer of The Beatles' "I Am The Walrus" before leaving the stage at 11.20pm. However, it seems they may already be regretting the massive payback, a move which could cost them £3 million. Towards the end of last night's gig, Noel seemed to be backtracking, telling fans: "Kind of regret offering you your money back now. Apply for it back if you wanna be a c*nt, we'll do our best for you." Sounds like fans will definitely get a refund. Definitely maybe...

Should Oasis give their fans a refund after last night's gig? Or did the band make up for the sound problems by playing a full set? Have your say here

apply for the refund if you think they should give you your money back, dont apply for it if you dont think they should give the money back. either way calling their fans a bunch of c*nts seems rediculous

Won't they have insurance for things that go wrong? - if the concert goers claim a refund - they should surely claim it from insurance - so it won't cost £3 million. As for calling your fans c*nts - i'd ask for a refund just cos of that - clearly they dont truely appreciate their fans then if they can swear at them for wanting a refund for a sub standard performance.

Tosh band of Stones/Beatles/Zepp impersonators, with obvious songs and overly arrogant attitude.

I hope this happens on the Sunday when I go to watch them, and I hope they offer a refund... 'cause I'm a c**t. Ha ha ha.

Having seen Oasis over 40 times, there is no way you can call their performance sub standard it was a great performance and a good setlist it just ended 30 minutes later than planned. And if you are the fan you suggest then you should understand Noel's sense of humour.

I agree totally with cookrobert64 -In one hand they want to give the fans a rrefund because of all the technical problems on the night and then in the next breath they're calling the fans a c**t if they decide to get a refund- not good in my opinion!

Ifn you are daft enough to spend that sort of money on that sort of noise you deserve everything you get.

I thought they put on a fantastic performance, i don't understand why it is being called a disaster because it was brilliant!!

I am gunna be a c*nt and get my money back though but i thought they definitely made up for it, especially doing 'live forever' which they announced that they were never going to play again!

My boys drove 150 miles to see The Enemy who never appeared and then the problems with the Oasis set, couldn't get any reasonably priced accomodation near Heaton Park, so drove another 150 miles back home. They weren't going to apply for their money back as they thought Kasabian were awesome and Oasis themselves were pretty good, but after being called a c**t by someone like a Gallagher brother they have changed their minds.

Probably the best parts of the gig were when the power failed anyway!

GOOD ON THE BROS FOR DOING WHAT THEY DID.
IF YOU CU@TS WANT YIR MONEY BACK.
