Oasis Refund? Definitely Maybe

Posted Fri 5 Jun 2009 11:41AM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
Earlier this week, Liam Gallagher spoke cockily about the return of Oasis to the UK stage. Talking up their hat-trick of homecoming concerts at Manchester's Heaton Park, he told reporters: "In total seriousness, I reckon these gigs have the potential to be even better than the Knebworth shows", referring to the band's historic run of massive dates at the band and Britpop's peak in 1996. Looks like he couldn't have been more wrong, after the disastrous first night saw the group offering all 70,000 fans a full refund.

So where did it all go wrong? A power cut has been blamed on the technical problems that saw the band storm off-stage after just one song, to the sound of boos. They returned shortly after and kicked into "Lyla", only for the sound to fail again, with smoke apparently wafting from faulty generator equipment. There was a further delay of 40 mins before they reappeared, with Liam telling fans: "This is a free gig now. Everyone will get a refund", while brother Noel added: "The curfew's 11, but we'll play 'til they kick us off. Keep your ticket and you'll get your money back."

Oasis
were as good as their word, playing a full, 24-song set and encoring with their traditional set closer of The Beatles' "I Am The Walrus" before leaving the stage at 11.20pm. However, it seems they may already be regretting the massive payback, a move which could cost them £3 million. Towards the end of last night's gig, Noel seemed to be backtracking, telling fans: "Kind of regret offering you your money back now. Apply for it back if you wanna be a c*nt, we'll do our best for you." Sounds like fans will definitely get a refund. Definitely maybe...

Should Oasis give their fans a refund after last night's gig? Or did the band make up for the sound problems by playing a full set? Have your say here

Oasis have always been S**T so they should've really given all the money back on all their gigs....oh and their albums!

i totally understand oasis i have had the same problem happen to me when i did a gig in cumbria! i may only be small time but thats not the point. I feel oasis offered a refund for faults which may or may not be theor fault. i think it was a good thing they did refund and an even better thing to carry on regardless, as for the calling of c**ts i feel that that was a way to buzz up the crowd, people still got to see them so why ask for refund they still played so what if there was an error at the start the rest of the gig would of been good, Hats off to Liam,Noel gallagher n band, rus

Maybe this article is part of the PR campaign to limit the damage of the refund - everyone make sure you get your money back!. The gig will have generated immense profits anyway. I think it's great that the band had the bottle to say what they did and play for longer and I only wish that some other bands like Def Leppard had done the same when they played a few absolute stinkers back in the day especially in Sheffield!.

Exactly if you were a fan you wouldnt be as pissy as some of you are getting and if your not why waste your time commenting anyway. Oasis are great power fail or not :)

You can't blame the band for technical hitches! I was there and this article sucks, because it doesn't highlight the humour with which the boys approached the matter!

Oasis have far outlived their shelf life, saw them back in 2002 outside Dublin and even then they were past it. One-trick ponies. It's not 1994 anymore. Even if they did give 'good' gig, when you say you're going to give money back the you should give it back, not just 'do your best' otherwise you're the c*nt. Pity they weren't electricuted.

Get your money back... I like Oasis but they're the c*nts if they think hardworking people like us don't deserve a refund. Cheeky buggers.
