Oasis Refund? Definitely Maybe

Posted Fri 5 Jun 2009 11:41AM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
Earlier this week, Liam Gallagher spoke cockily about the return of Oasis to the UK stage. Talking up their hat-trick of homecoming concerts at Manchester's Heaton Park, he told reporters: "In total seriousness, I reckon these gigs have the potential to be even better than the Knebworth shows", referring to the band's historic run of massive dates at the band and Britpop's peak in 1996. Looks like he couldn't have been more wrong, after the disastrous first night saw the group offering all 70,000 fans a full refund.

So where did it all go wrong? A power cut has been blamed on the technical problems that saw the band storm off-stage after just one song, to the sound of boos. They returned shortly after and kicked into "Lyla", only for the sound to fail again, with smoke apparently wafting from faulty generator equipment. There was a further delay of 40 mins before they reappeared, with Liam telling fans: "This is a free gig now. Everyone will get a refund", while brother Noel added: "The curfew's 11, but we'll play 'til they kick us off. Keep your ticket and you'll get your money back."

Oasis
were as good as their word, playing a full, 24-song set and encoring with their traditional set closer of The Beatles' "I Am The Walrus" before leaving the stage at 11.20pm. However, it seems they may already be regretting the massive payback, a move which could cost them £3 million. Towards the end of last night's gig, Noel seemed to be backtracking, telling fans: "Kind of regret offering you your money back now. Apply for it back if you wanna be a c*nt, we'll do our best for you." Sounds like fans will definitely get a refund. Definitely maybe...

Should Oasis give their fans a refund after last night's gig? Or did the band make up for the sound problems by playing a full set? Have your say here

Cocky Qunts,If it wasnt for the fans youd be signing on like all your mates singing in pubs,if your lucky. If not in prison or at the end of a bar in a pub somwhere in burnage.

It's not Liam & Noel who lose out by offering a full refund. Someone has to pay for all of the back stage staff and equipment. A 75% refund should be offered, and the liabilities insurance from the stage management would be more than enough to cover the rest. At least this way, the real work force behaind the band would get paid from the night without having to dig into the shallow pockets of Liam and Noel

Anyone who was there will know this was not a disaster! The only people calling it a disaster are the press, who probably werent there or just dont like Oasis. They played all the songs they originally said they would, plus giving everyone their money back! cookrobert64, you need to stop being such a marde a**e, youre getting your money back and no doubt you enjoyed the gig! Noel clearly wasnt calling anyone a c**t, it was a joke! If you are a fan, you should know what he is like and thats the kind of thing he would say. As for the boos......ha, as if people were booing Oasis, the boos were for the sound failure, not because they were s**t, because they werent! Guess what f**k everyone who thinks they are s**t and f**k all you tight a***s who want your money back, I was there and it was fantastic, I would pay twice what I paid to go see them again, no problem!

What do you expect from a bunch of Wythenshawe low lifes? I hope it costs them a fortune and as a local resident a complaint is going in for breach of the licence. Typical nobhead attitude towards the public in general and the devoted fans in particular!!

Not sure why people pay that sort of money to watch an over rated Beatles tribute act with only one talented member anyway

Or 1 pond = two small puddles, an even better rate what.

In my opinion, if you cheered, you shouldn't get your money back. If you cheered, you obviously enjoyed it.

Who asks for a refund at a football match if a goal isn't scored?
