Oasis Refund? Definitely Maybe

Posted Fri 5 Jun 2009 11:41AM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
Earlier this week, Liam Gallagher spoke cockily about the return of Oasis to the UK stage. Talking up their hat-trick of homecoming concerts at Manchester's Heaton Park, he told reporters: "In total seriousness, I reckon these gigs have the potential to be even better than the Knebworth shows", referring to the band's historic run of massive dates at the band and Britpop's peak in 1996. Looks like he couldn't have been more wrong, after the disastrous first night saw the group offering all 70,000 fans a full refund.

So where did it all go wrong? A power cut has been blamed on the technical problems that saw the band storm off-stage after just one song, to the sound of boos. They returned shortly after and kicked into "Lyla", only for the sound to fail again, with smoke apparently wafting from faulty generator equipment. There was a further delay of 40 mins before they reappeared, with Liam telling fans: "This is a free gig now. Everyone will get a refund", while brother Noel added: "The curfew's 11, but we'll play 'til they kick us off. Keep your ticket and you'll get your money back."

Oasis
were as good as their word, playing a full, 24-song set and encoring with their traditional set closer of The Beatles' "I Am The Walrus" before leaving the stage at 11.20pm. However, it seems they may already be regretting the massive payback, a move which could cost them £3 million. Towards the end of last night's gig, Noel seemed to be backtracking, telling fans: "Kind of regret offering you your money back now. Apply for it back if you wanna be a c*nt, we'll do our best for you." Sounds like fans will definitely get a refund. Definitely maybe...

Should Oasis give their fans a refund after last night's gig? Or did the band make up for the sound problems by playing a full set? Have your say here

pop music is crap, everybody knows it, these people swear at you and call you names and you still go, so if you pay big money to go listen to it then your not the brightest button in the box, are you?

103. Del -
it's about time they gave the fans back their money. About 10 years overdue...

I watched them lastnight at Heaton Park and they were totally brilliant. They gave a really good show and well worth the money I paid out on tickets. To offer a full refund for a technical hitch which was out of their hands is very generous.

Yeah, i'll try and get my money back but i'll probably put it towards getting more tickets to see them! The show was fantastic-not a disaster.

A true Oasis fan surely wouldn't mind waiting 40 minutes for a technical problem when the show then goes on to continue with "Morning Glory","Live forever" and "Cigerettes and Alcohol"!

Was the word c**t not used in jest? Whay all the moaning they played out the gig didn't they, not like they left the fans with nothing! If you get a refund great but come on, money isn't everything, what about the music and the atmosphere? Get a grip you moaners!

typical behaviour of these guys - if you ask me - he should have kept his big trap shut on this occasion- having said that there is no way he should be calling any fan c**t for whatever reason - and that would be why i would be reclaiming th emoney if i had been there - not because i thought the gig sub-standard and not because they kept me after the "deadline" - Bloody Prats - if they don't deliver they don't derserve any of the loyal fans they have - my fella being one of them - better not happen on sunday cos we will be there - and if he called us c**ts he had better hide behind a bloody great bouncer cos i'd be inclined to knock the arrogant gits head off

you all should be ashamed for buying thier records and encouraging them to make more and play more gigs. The Beatles were bad enough.Look at you fans, argueing and bhatching just like your idols.

It doesn't sound to me like it was actually Oasis' fault... If they'd not turned up, turned up drunk or stoned (then noone would notice!) then it'd be their fault... As it is, it sounds like it's Heaton Park's fault... Also, where has all the ticket money gone? And, in this day of having to have insurance for everything, can't they get the money off've someone else? Not that I can imagine Oasis have been hit by the crdit crunch in the same way as those of us who struggle to pay the bills...

I don't know what anybody ever saw in this group anyway, there is more talent on the club circuit. Get your refund should apply to every gig they ever did.
