Oasis Refund? Definitely Maybe

Posted Fri 5 Jun 2009 11:41AM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
Earlier this week, Liam Gallagher spoke cockily about the return of Oasis to the UK stage. Talking up their hat-trick of homecoming concerts at Manchester's Heaton Park, he told reporters: "In total seriousness, I reckon these gigs have the potential to be even better than the Knebworth shows", referring to the band's historic run of massive dates at the band and Britpop's peak in 1996. Looks like he couldn't have been more wrong, after the disastrous first night saw the group offering all 70,000 fans a full refund.

So where did it all go wrong? A power cut has been blamed on the technical problems that saw the band storm off-stage after just one song, to the sound of boos. They returned shortly after and kicked into "Lyla", only for the sound to fail again, with smoke apparently wafting from faulty generator equipment. There was a further delay of 40 mins before they reappeared, with Liam telling fans: "This is a free gig now. Everyone will get a refund", while brother Noel added: "The curfew's 11, but we'll play 'til they kick us off. Keep your ticket and you'll get your money back."

Oasis
were as good as their word, playing a full, 24-song set and encoring with their traditional set closer of The Beatles' "I Am The Walrus" before leaving the stage at 11.20pm. However, it seems they may already be regretting the massive payback, a move which could cost them £3 million. Towards the end of last night's gig, Noel seemed to be backtracking, telling fans: "Kind of regret offering you your money back now. Apply for it back if you wanna be a c*nt, we'll do our best for you." Sounds like fans will definitely get a refund. Definitely maybe...

Should Oasis give their fans a refund after last night's gig? Or did the band make up for the sound problems by playing a full set? Have your say here

I was at the gig last night, was a fantastic night, first time i had ever seen Oasis live.
Except for a few delays, which was not the bands fault, i will not be asking for my money back, i got what i payed for.

As for the swearing at the fans, it has been compleatly taken out of context. If you were there you would understand. It was banter and all the fans laughed at the remark, no one took any offence.

They need to rewrite the article by someone who actually was at the the gig in mho.

If they offered a refund it should be given but why are people still funding these fools by buying their music and going to gigs. Did noone see them for the wasters they really are years ago when they first appeared? How much of that money was used to fund their dr*g habits in the beginning?
Maybe now some of these people will wake up!!!

I was at the gig and it was frustrating more than anything. Not sure if will try for a refund, I'm sure they just said it to calm the crowd cos there were a lot of pissed off people. Kasabian were better IMO.

get a grip for f*** sake, it wouldnt have crossed any of your minds to request a refund in the first place and dont try and kid on who ever went to it never enjoyed themselves if it was that crap of a gig yous would have left instead of waitin about for them to come back out again..call yourself oasis fans..get a grip..bunch of c****.

If you're moaning you didn't deserve a ticket in the first place! Because as fans you would know by now that they always have been and always will be unpredictable! They played a full set in the end so shut it!

Before the gig, if I'd been promised a 24-song set interupted by 30 mins interval, I would have been delighted, so what's the fuss? Brilliant stuff from a band at the top of its game!

If the band played a good set and you still want your money back then you are a greedy C*** as Noel said. Simple as. Nothing to do with the credit crunch so sick of everyone blaming greedy actions on the credit crunch!

At the end of the day, they played a full set, and had to leave the stage twice through no fault of their own. Noel's sense of humour obviously passed everybody by on this one... You got what you paid for at the end of the day - and they played Live Forever which has been missing from this tour until last night. So what has anybody got to moan about?! Fair enough, if the delay caused you to have to leave the show early to get yur transport links, then claim it back! The furore caused by Noel's comment was a flippant remark, and quite obviously a joke.

F**k 'em! Take what you can...give nothing back!!

139. mariam -
Think it's decent of them to offer your money back if you want to claim for it, but in all fairness it was not their fault and they tried to make up for it but playing as long as they could. They didn't say you can't apply for the money back, just that after they actually played a proper set you'd be a c*nt to do so. I agree with them actually.

For calling them aa c**t there shud be a refund.
