Oasis Refund? Definitely Maybe

Posted Fri 5 Jun 2009 11:41AM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
Earlier this week, Liam Gallagher spoke cockily about the return of Oasis to the UK stage. Talking up their hat-trick of homecoming concerts at Manchester's Heaton Park, he told reporters: "In total seriousness, I reckon these gigs have the potential to be even better than the Knebworth shows", referring to the band's historic run of massive dates at the band and Britpop's peak in 1996. Looks like he couldn't have been more wrong, after the disastrous first night saw the group offering all 70,000 fans a full refund.

So where did it all go wrong? A power cut has been blamed on the technical problems that saw the band storm off-stage after just one song, to the sound of boos. They returned shortly after and kicked into "Lyla", only for the sound to fail again, with smoke apparently wafting from faulty generator equipment. There was a further delay of 40 mins before they reappeared, with Liam telling fans: "This is a free gig now. Everyone will get a refund", while brother Noel added: "The curfew's 11, but we'll play 'til they kick us off. Keep your ticket and you'll get your money back."

Oasis
were as good as their word, playing a full, 24-song set and encoring with their traditional set closer of The Beatles' "I Am The Walrus" before leaving the stage at 11.20pm. However, it seems they may already be regretting the massive payback, a move which could cost them £3 million. Towards the end of last night's gig, Noel seemed to be backtracking, telling fans: "Kind of regret offering you your money back now. Apply for it back if you wanna be a c*nt, we'll do our best for you." Sounds like fans will definitely get a refund. Definitely maybe...

Should Oasis give their fans a refund after last night's gig? Or did the band make up for the sound problems by playing a full set? Have your say here

It's so depressing......the standard of spelling I mean. There for their, payed for paid.....allways for always...and so it goes.

If Mr. Noel hadn't suggested we would be c***s if we sought a refund, I'd probably have let the band off with it. But, given his arrogance and disrespect, I hope we all give him an even bigger headache than the morning after a boozy night and take the £3 million back. If they really needed our money anyway, he wouldn't have offered it. So, just to let you know how big a c***t I can be when abused by a prat like you Noel, I'll be first in line to get my refund come Monday.

He shouldn't have been so stupid to make that promise in the first place - I think we all know who the real cu*t is...

Frankly I don't know what you are all moaning about, everybody knows what a pair of A**eholes the Gallagher brothers are and how loud and brash they are, I don't even think their music is that good to be honest, never what you might call a fan. The moral of the story here is, crap for the masses and you all made them rich and now with all the money they got off of you they think they can p**s all over you! People will learn yet not to idolise scum like them!

I can't believe some of the brain-dead morons who have posted comments here. The implication is that the band is completely indifferent to the fact that a genny wasn't working properly - which has to be complete nonsense. They must have been as frustrated as hell. To offer fans their money is evidence of how really p*ssed off they must have been about it all. Yet, despite this, the idiots continue to slag them off. Unbelievable! So if you didn't rate the gig and you want your dosh back then ask for it back. And then STFU.

I was there and to be honest my biggest disappointment at the event was The Enemy were unable to play due to sickness. The Enemy was one of the major factors in me buying a ticket, then at event buying one of their T-shirts and being the only person wearing a Enemy shirt and then not knowing till minutes before that they couldn't play. I felt a bit stupid, but what the hell they can't help being sick.

Next yea, the false start by Oasis was a nuisance, but again it's one of those things that can't be helped. At least they still played a full set once up and running.
And the gesture of our money back i thought was generous, the bits about us all being c**ts if we did claim it though i thought was really funny, cos we did still all see a full concert, even though it had some mishaps, it was still very good, well i thought so.

After event though no/not enough buses, trains, taxis to get us to where we were all going, and the government wants us to use public transport more !!! Now that was the biggest disappointment !! Public transport needs to be more readily available and in plentyful supply for ALL destinations if we are EVER gonna use it.....

HE IS CORRECT YOU DID PAY TO SEE THEM SO WHY GET MONEY BACK YOUR C'S IN THE FIRST PLACE FOR PAYING THERE A GRAP BAND

174. Yahoo! Music User -
Well what a nice way to speak to the people that put you where you are in the first place these guys do not deserve fans, there is no need for that language in song lyrics or other wise, there were kids in the audience !!!!!
I think they are over-rated anyway wouldnt pay to see them, they would have to pay me to go.........a bunch of un-talented idiots !!!

175. spike361 -
