Jacko: Ticket Or Refund?

Posted Tue 30 Jun 2009 11:47AM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
As millions continue to mourn the death of Michael Jackson across the globe, many fans who bought tickets for the pop superstar's ill-fated "This Is It" dates have also been wondering when or if they will get their money back. Around 800,000 reportedly paid considerable sums to see his much-anticipated but unlikely comeback, which was scheduled to stretch across 50 dates at London's O2 Arena. Today news emerged that the promoters have come up with a novel idea to commemorate his passing.

All fans will be eligible to a refund or can instead sacrifice the money to receive their exclusive ticket, which features a holographic, 3D image of Jackson in one of his iconic, dancing poses. Eight different versions are understood to have been printed and AEG Live say they have been inundated with requests from fans who are eager to keep what are sure to become collector's items and a highly-sought after piece of music memorabilia.

Company president Randy Phillips explained they were keen to make sure people were treated fairly after missing out on the chance to see Michael. "The world lost a kind soul who just happened to be the greatest entertainer the world has ever known", he explained. "Since he loved his fans in life, it is incumbent upon us to treat them with the same reverence and respect after his death." For more information on the refund policy and to view what are said to be the final live shots of Jackson, taken just two days before his death, view the video clip below:

What do you think of AEG's plan? Is it a cheap gimmick or a fitting tribute to Jackson? Will you be seeking a refund or a commemorative ticket? Have your say here...

yes perhaps it is a way of giving everyone a refund, and i feel most true fans will recieve the ticket and not the cash, yet there will be some out there who will indeed get a refund and i dont think that should be seen as disrespectful towards Michael Jackson!

cheap

It would be easy to be cynical about this but when i really think about it i'd probably take the shinny ticket thing and frame it.

Looks like a cheap trick to me - you pay for a ticket to see Michael Jackson perform, but instead you get to keep the ticket and NOT see him perform while the promotion company keeps the money without providing a show!

"it is incumbent upon us to treat them with the same reverence and respect after his death."

Which, translated, means 'let's release some tickets anyway and see who's gormless enough to cough up hundreds of pounds for a gig that's never going to happen.

What a load of utter bollocks.

RIP Michael

I personally think this is just a way of the promoters to keep some of the money ,after all they are set to make huge losses .They should just give people the refund and give people the tickets as a tribute without people having to pay for them

We Miss You MJ.

Apparrantly he only thought he signed for 10 shows, his 'people' made him sign for more. Shame.

I personally will be getting a refund. If they offered the ticket at a reduced rate then I may be interested but £75 for a pieve of paper... in the credit crunch as well

They should be sent the ticket and the refund. This is a scam.

AIG should be refunding and giving the tickets to the fans.
The tickets have already been printed so at least give the fans something to remember his passing

Oh come on - they are doing this because they are a business and stand to lose millions. They can print these tickets off for next to nothing and keep losses to a minimum. Send a ticket worth a pound or two, or give hundreds in refund to each person.... hmmm

Why not give everyone a refund and the ticket ! after all the concert is not going to take place now. That way every one is happy.

AIG are the company that is broke corrupt and who stole trillions through goldman of the american people.why should getting a refund be disrespectful from those crooks he wasnt a god , just an entertainer, His private life and personal persona was a disaster. i repeat he was a good entertainer, lets leave it at that and let him RIP stop all this media hype. the media are like vultures they pretend to love him but they just feed of the frenzie. Most people are to stupid and manipulated to know that
