Jacko: Ticket Or Refund?

Posted Tue 30 Jun 2009 11:47AM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
As millions continue to mourn the death of Michael Jackson across the globe, many fans who bought tickets for the pop superstar's ill-fated "This Is It" dates have also been wondering when or if they will get their money back. Around 800,000 reportedly paid considerable sums to see his much-anticipated but unlikely comeback, which was scheduled to stretch across 50 dates at London's O2 Arena. Today news emerged that the promoters have come up with a novel idea to commemorate his passing.

All fans will be eligible to a refund or can instead sacrifice the money to receive their exclusive ticket, which features a holographic, 3D image of Jackson in one of his iconic, dancing poses. Eight different versions are understood to have been printed and AEG Live say they have been inundated with requests from fans who are eager to keep what are sure to become collector's items and a highly-sought after piece of music memorabilia.

Company president Randy Phillips explained they were keen to make sure people were treated fairly after missing out on the chance to see Michael. "The world lost a kind soul who just happened to be the greatest entertainer the world has ever known", he explained. "Since he loved his fans in life, it is incumbent upon us to treat them with the same reverence and respect after his death." For more information on the refund policy and to view what are said to be the final live shots of Jackson, taken just two days before his death, view the video clip below:

What do you think of AEG's plan? Is it a cheap gimmick or a fitting tribute to Jackson? Will you be seeking a refund or a commemorative ticket? Have your say here...

i personally think that these concerts should be turned in to memorial tributes to michael as these fans loved him sooooo much it would be a great opertunity 2 say bye.

this way everybody is happy and just think how lucky you would be to attend this.....

"Why not give everyone a refund and the ticket ! after all the concert is not going to take place now. That way every one is happy."

yes it's true, but, then how is o2 going to recover the money?

Well they are giving people the option, so I think it's fair either way, although if they really wanted to be nice they could give refunds AND the tickets, awarding the fans who bouth the first tickets.

people who paid to much for there tickets will lose out if they sell ticket beter to keep ticket

I am a cynic but on this occasion I think this is a very well thought out idea, because we are dealing with real fans here, and this souvenir special is for them, the best option to the live show, and I think they will indeed, appreciate its value. Also, there is the absolute option of straightforward moneyback, which proves it is not really a ploy. All in all, this is a very good salute to Michael Jackson and his management are doing well by him.

Somone said on the news that if not many people claim them then they will be worth a lot of money, more than £75. This is rubbish. All the tickets have been made and therefore all exist. Those not claimed will still be available to sell on ebay!

Even very rare tickets don't fetch that much money anyway. Becasue there are so many of them they will not be worth much. And if they ever do exceed the value of the £75 it is not like you are ever going to get rich.

The tickets should be sent out free. I very much doubt that the booking fee will be refunded. I bet that cost the fans near on £10 extra.

i think they should all get a refund and the exclusive ticket.

The whole thing is as plastic as he was - what a way to treat the public, crass.

This is easy to see they are just trying to recoup the money - they should give the ticket as a bonus, after all, it has been paid for) - and the refund. People will fall for this though, just the fact that the tickets could be worth something in the future - ridiculous !

it's entirely upto the individual as to wether or not they want their money refunded! to those of you who do, don't feel bad about it im sure michael would understand. if the gigs were cancelled for other reasons you would want your money back then would'nt you? I wonder what they will do with michaels share of the money not refunded?
R.I.P michael x

i wouldnt mind losing half what i paid in exchange for the tickets, but i think AEG have got brass nerves to insist on keeping the full amount for the exchange, after all i would have had the ticket anyway and got to see MJ perform all for the same money AEG ant just for the ticket alone.... they are exploiting and robbing MJ fans !!

How is a ticket for a show which never took place going to become a collectors item? The tickets from the last show he preformed - now that's going to be valauble one day!!!

75. naomi -
haha! what a joke! they should send the ticket AND the refund! they are just trying to get our of their ££££££ losses. they are ridiculing the fans by doing this!

76. Jamie E -
People have a choice not to take the ticket and can take a refund instead, I think that is fair enough then really. Non-story.

77. Ian -
I think this is one of the biggest cons of all time AIG want to give nothing but a shiny ticket instead of paying back the money. The tour was insured so why should they look not to pay back the money

78. iain -
of course it's a scam, aeg are up [profane]e creek without the paddle,so with not enough insurance to cover the refunds & the whole sorry mess then why not fob the public off with a ticket they can't use, they are already printed so get the con working & it could save them 50 million

79. Terry -
Just a thought, The 'Touts' (for want of a better word), who bought tickets in bulk, hoping to sell them at a good profit.

I hope you got your fingers well and truly burnt.
