Jacko: Ticket Or Refund?

Posted Tue 30 Jun 2009 11:47AM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
As millions continue to mourn the death of Michael Jackson across the globe, many fans who bought tickets for the pop superstar's ill-fated "This Is It" dates have also been wondering when or if they will get their money back. Around 800,000 reportedly paid considerable sums to see his much-anticipated but unlikely comeback, which was scheduled to stretch across 50 dates at London's O2 Arena. Today news emerged that the promoters have come up with a novel idea to commemorate his passing.

All fans will be eligible to a refund or can instead sacrifice the money to receive their exclusive ticket, which features a holographic, 3D image of Jackson in one of his iconic, dancing poses. Eight different versions are understood to have been printed and AEG Live say they have been inundated with requests from fans who are eager to keep what are sure to become collector's items and a highly-sought after piece of music memorabilia.

Company president Randy Phillips explained they were keen to make sure people were treated fairly after missing out on the chance to see Michael. "The world lost a kind soul who just happened to be the greatest entertainer the world has ever known", he explained. "Since he loved his fans in life, it is incumbent upon us to treat them with the same reverence and respect after his death." For more information on the refund policy and to view what are said to be the final live shots of Jackson, taken just two days before his death, view the video clip below:

What do you think of AEG's plan? Is it a cheap gimmick or a fitting tribute to Jackson? Will you be seeking a refund or a commemorative ticket? Have your say here...

I would get the refund and go watch the west end show Thriller as a tribute.

why put the gig on asa tribute and get all his friends in the business to do a free gig ..ie his so called family ..make it a tribute to the King of pop

Someone mentioned a really good idea in the London lite yesterday.. why don't they do 50 memorial shows, where they get different singers each week to perform his hits, including Janet & the rest of the family. That way, you still get a cracking show and chance to relive his music. It's not as good as the real thing but a good compromise I think.. there should still be a choice on getting a refund or not though...

Give everyone the refund, then stage another concert in memory of him to have a massive party, he would have liked that.
And money from ticket sales to get neverland up and running again, in his memory.

CHEAP TRICK!!!. When the promoters have ALREADY made a profit on the show, the interest made from banked cash from ticket sales, why could they not GIVE you a ticket, instead of charging and thats exactly what is being done, with your refund.
Micheal Jackson means nothing to them except in monetary terms he was just the proverbial cash cow.

Surely they could come up with something better than that !! I was willing to sacrifice my money for a tribute or dvd but a piece of paper get real !! my ticket come to £96.00 a bit too much for a holographic ticket.
They could have posponed again and come up with a tribute where are all the saddened stars now Madonna Beyonce. Make MJ wishes come true do the final tour for him !!
Missing you Mj RIP x

btw are we all forgettin he was a pedophile?

These holographic images are a cheap alternative that certainly won't cost as much to produce as a ticket would cost to buy. It is a way of allowing promoters to keep some profit from sales of the tickets by alternatively producing tacky merchandise to people who believe they are getting a good deal.
my advice would be to get your money back from a ticket if you have brought one to avoid the dissapointment of an unfair refund.

I'd be happy to get a ticket as a souveneir, for AEG to cover their costs and then have them donate the rest of the money to a charity on behalf of Michael.

Absolute blatent con. Promotors are insured for these kind of circumstances so all potential loses would be covered, it sounds as though they really do want their cake and eat it. Did anyone really care about Jackson, his family are so mercinary, his father is a total low life and never did give a toss about MJ, the jacksons are reforming to cash in, the promotors are cashing in, what the hel, has happened to society...?

Send them all an invite to the funeral - it is bound to be more of a side-show than any of his concerts. His father can then steal even more of his son's memory and money which is what his entire unfortunate life was actually all about.

Waste money on hologram ticket. The one already printed tickets (not use ticket) send it out to remember where we really seat with seat numbers.

I think it is wrong of AEG to go down this route. They are playing on peoples' emotions. I mean what are they going to do with the tickets anyway? The tickets alone are not going to be worth £75+ so why not give them both (as others have said). I mean what are they going to do with the money, they are not going to give that to the children, so who is going to get the money? I think it is wrong and is just playing on emotions. I for one will more than likely get my money back (though the tickets do look kinda cool and was designed by the man himself (again playing on emotions). Tis wrong.

Absolute scam, these people think we are mugs. I bought 4 tickets costing £338 including outrageous booking fees and secure postage.

Why do I want 4 useless pieces of paper ? I paid to see the man himself not hologram.

Personally I would encourage everyone to take the cash.

116. Michael -
This is a scam, they should refund and give the tickets, shame on them

What a scam.
The fans would have had the ticket as a souvenir anyway, after they had seen the show they paid for. Remember it is the show you are paying for, not the ticket. This shower of barefaced robbers should send the tickets and full refund with a letter of thanks for the interest their company has gained on the money they have had banked .

At least Dick Turpin wore a mask when he was robbing people.

Its hardly gonna be an exclusive thing is it?? There will be thousands of the blooming things.

120. Donna -
cant believe they are not at least offering a part refund with ticket my family have to scrimp and save for everything these tickets were a once in a lifetime opportunity for us i would love to keep the ticket but feel my family cannot justify paying that much for a show we are never going to get to see pure grred from these companies its not costing them £85 to send a ticket out!!!
