Jacko: Ticket Or Refund?

Posted Tue 30 Jun 2009 11:47AM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
As millions continue to mourn the death of Michael Jackson across the globe, many fans who bought tickets for the pop superstar's ill-fated "This Is It" dates have also been wondering when or if they will get their money back. Around 800,000 reportedly paid considerable sums to see his much-anticipated but unlikely comeback, which was scheduled to stretch across 50 dates at London's O2 Arena. Today news emerged that the promoters have come up with a novel idea to commemorate his passing.

All fans will be eligible to a refund or can instead sacrifice the money to receive their exclusive ticket, which features a holographic, 3D image of Jackson in one of his iconic, dancing poses. Eight different versions are understood to have been printed and AEG Live say they have been inundated with requests from fans who are eager to keep what are sure to become collector's items and a highly-sought after piece of music memorabilia.

Company president Randy Phillips explained they were keen to make sure people were treated fairly after missing out on the chance to see Michael. "The world lost a kind soul who just happened to be the greatest entertainer the world has ever known", he explained. "Since he loved his fans in life, it is incumbent upon us to treat them with the same reverence and respect after his death." For more information on the refund policy and to view what are said to be the final live shots of Jackson, taken just two days before his death, view the video clip below:

What do you think of AEG's plan? Is it a cheap gimmick or a fitting tribute to Jackson? Will you be seeking a refund or a commemorative ticket? Have your say here...

They are a disgrace, give the fans the money and the ticket, its the fairest thing to do, shame on them

I Take it aeg will pass on all the money to charity they collect for these exclusive tickets,Ooh look a pink elephant just flew by !

I would say investor's beware if you think you are going to make a fortune in the future. Collectables are valuable because they are "rare" and thousands of items of the same type are not going to be rare. Take it from someone who undersands collectables and the understand of the mind behind why they are sought after. I have been selling collectables for years on Ebay with success but only because I could offer items produced in very limited numbers. Take the offer if you want it for yourself but not because you think you are going to make a mint out of it. You money back now is going to be worth much more to you today than a risk at selling something in the future where thousands of the things are going to be available.

rip off

WHY not give the refund and they still get to keep their ticket after all their dream has now been shattered and all they have left is their own personal memories and thoughts of Michael, how low are these organisers prepare to go? they are still trying to cash in on Michaels death, it seems there is no more respect in the world.IF WE DONT HAVE RESPECT FOR THE DEAD WHAT CHANCE HAS THE LIVING GOT?????????

These are the people that tricked him to sign 50 shows when he only thought they were 10. These are the people that killed him due to stress, now they try to con us the PUBLIC. MJ we will take our refund for YOU, so people like these learn not to play with the fans emotions with cheap tricks.

I wonder who gets to keep all the money if people don't claim a refund. MJ's kids?? obviously not!! these crooks!!

I WANT A REFUND!!

127. Yahoo! Music User -
Nirvana had gigs in the UK prior to Kurt Cobains death, those who had tickets were entitled to refunds, some chose to hold onto the ticket for gigs that never happened and later could sell the unused tickets on for 20 times their face value to collectors.

The tickets them selfs are A SOUVENIR!!!!!! that was the last ticket ever for MJ show!!!! save them!! you dont really need refund!!

129. remedios -
I think we should have our money back & the ticket, if they issued us with them before, we would have had them anyway, it's in distaste to offer us this choice, and it shouldn't be allowed!

130. Yahoo! Music User -
Is Hologram with seat number and date

131. MarijeB -
I think they should refund most of the money and let people choose between a fiver off their refund and the ticket, or a full refund. Charging 50 quid for a piece of plastic is outrageous!

Unless the money went to his children, I think this is a nasty and tacky thing to do.

132. PETER -
What a TOTAL SCAM.Give the people who bought the tickets their money back AND let them keep the ticket for goodness sake. It's a piece of paper. It's no good to anyone so let the fans keep it as a memento. These people are crooks and the sooner people stop accepting this kind of behaviour the sooner they stop getting away with it.

133. Des W -
Once again promoters are working on the emotions of fans to get them out of the s**t. Watched a poor lad on GMTV this morning hardly able to speak or think about what to do because he's so upset (the guy bought 12 tickets for 12 different shows for goodness sake!!!). Cough up guys - you have to take on these unforeseen knocks, that's what insurance is for!!! Not the fans' problem if you haven't taken out enough cover.

134. stupot -
Depends whether any of his family get to see any of the money they will be earning from not refunding tickets.

135. David H -
How on earth can this refund 'ticket be exclusive' with the 1000's of them being given out - wake up - they just want to avoid a refund - its over - 'everybody get your money back' - this is just a scam.

136. PAUL H -
do you realy think that there is not going to be a flood of tickets on sale.
If 1% of the people get a ticket instead of there money back what do you think the promoter is going to do with the other 99%. wake up smell the coffee and dont be a donught, get your dough back,

137. Tim F -
The only souvenir I'd accept would be his nose.

138. Janice -
it is a great idea... all i can say, this kind of things will have a great value in time. just like other famous people like elvis and some of his personal belongings... we should not rush things up just to earn money.(have patience) and for sure of the people bought the tickets is not poor like street people/homeless.(that the money they used to buy the tickets is the last money on their pockets) expect the unexpected.

God took him maybe because he is working so hard all of his life imagine from young kid up to now...(he push himself to the limit just to make us entertained, our body has its limits and michael pushes more beyond the limits)

to you MICHAEL JACKSON, the world will not know thriller, billie jeans, man in the mirror, bad and many more especially the moonwalk without you... some of the famous artist such as usher and justine timberlake will be nothing without you...

for 3 generations of my family and maybe the others too...(parents,i myself and my children knows your name) no one has done that before...

you deserve what you deserve my MICHAEL JACKSON our MICHAEL JACKSON...(the greatest man in the mirror)

139. rufus -
sounds like a big con, and a great way to get money for nothing, brilliant! Maddoff all over again!!!!

140. Nathan -
Everyone should take the money refund option.

There will be copies and forgeries made of the holographic tickets anyway making the genuine ones worthless.
