Jacko: Ticket Or Refund?

Posted Tue 30 Jun 2009 11:47AM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
As millions continue to mourn the death of Michael Jackson across the globe, many fans who bought tickets for the pop superstar's ill-fated "This Is It" dates have also been wondering when or if they will get their money back. Around 800,000 reportedly paid considerable sums to see his much-anticipated but unlikely comeback, which was scheduled to stretch across 50 dates at London's O2 Arena. Today news emerged that the promoters have come up with a novel idea to commemorate his passing.

All fans will be eligible to a refund or can instead sacrifice the money to receive their exclusive ticket, which features a holographic, 3D image of Jackson in one of his iconic, dancing poses. Eight different versions are understood to have been printed and AEG Live say they have been inundated with requests from fans who are eager to keep what are sure to become collector's items and a highly-sought after piece of music memorabilia.

Company president Randy Phillips explained they were keen to make sure people were treated fairly after missing out on the chance to see Michael. "The world lost a kind soul who just happened to be the greatest entertainer the world has ever known", he explained. "Since he loved his fans in life, it is incumbent upon us to treat them with the same reverence and respect after his death." For more information on the refund policy and to view what are said to be the final live shots of Jackson, taken just two days before his death, view the video clip below:

What do you think of AEG's plan? Is it a cheap gimmick or a fitting tribute to Jackson? Will you be seeking a refund or a commemorative ticket? Have your say here...

if all 800,000 people want the ticket, they're not going to very valuable are they? Especially as everyone will look after them and keep them in pristine condition. It's only rare items that are worth a lot.

well i think that people should be given both the ticket would cost pennys for them to make it wouldnt hurt for them to get a refund aswell as the ticket or is it becuase thay would make more money from just giveing people the tickets insted of a refund so thay can use the money to pay back all the money that Michael owes to people becuase we all know how much debt he was in so is this ticket thing just 1 big scam

I agree these tickets are souveniers, what is the guarantee, if there is a demand for it, they won't print more ??

I think that everyone who bought a Ticket for one of MJs concerts should automatically get a ticket & a full refund as the Sevice charge was £9 per person!!!! Or a tribute concert should be organised & fans can choose to go or have a full refund. I would much prefer to go to a tribute concert with Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Elton John, Britney Spears, Prince, the remaining members of The Jackson 5, Janet Jackson, 3T, etc............

AEG are only trying to get some of their losses back.At the end of the day they're a big company and will do their best from a business point of view to recouperate some of their losses. If i had a ticket i would prefare to keep the ticket knowing it'll be worth a lot more in the future

IS HOLOGRAM WITH SEAT NUMBER

149. MICHAEL -
I can`t believe people would be so gullible as to accept it , it is as big a rip off as I can imagine.

150. Lisa -
I think this is a rip-off! If they really cared about us fans then they would let us keep the tickets, regardless of a refund or not!We will never get to see anyone like this again, they are taking advantage out of us loyal fans!A legend dies and all they think about is how much cash they can make, sick people!

this is just another way for parasite promoters to fleece the public.

"...it is incumbent upon us to treat them with the same reverence and respect after his death."
So they are going to give everyone a ticket, that has already been printed, keep all the money and stage no concert. Who the f. is this guy trying to kid. It is only his luck that MJ didn't die in a month after the tickets were sent out. Scamster!

153. Neko -
Yes of course it is a way for the promoters to not have to return all the money that has been made through ticket sales - I imagine they will be losing a hell of a lot of money that has allready been spent towards creating the show.
But no one is going to lose out as they have given people a choice and have offered a full refund which I say is fair enough.
The people who decide to go for the "cheap gimmick" option might end up better off when their memoribillia gains value in years to come.

154. Damian -
Indeed we should get a refund and a ticket!! R.I.P Mike

155. Yahoo! Music User -
How can it be memorabilia if the concert was never shown? What stops another printer from releasing copycat tickets and making money off of that - AEG should just hold a tribute gig instead - something like Freddie Mercury tribute concert then at least fans get a choice and a real tribute.

156. neil w -
to those people who are going to keep the ticket. YOU SUCKERS.

157. Yahoo! Music User -
What a scam!!!

If he wasn't dead, you'd all get the ticket AND the gig. Right??This way you'd only get the ticket. Lovely as that might be!

Put it another way:

If he wasn't dead, AIG would have to PROVIDE the ticket AND THE GIG. This way they get to keep the money you sent them and not provide the gig???!!! That would be daylight robbery! SURELY?

You should get the choice to receive you refund in full OR the refund and ticket less the cost of producing the ticket. And that cost should be descided by a third party.

158. Lisa -
People who have paid alot of money for their tickets are going to be very upset by this news! IVe paid £180 for mine and think i should get a refund and keep the ticket as i will never experience this show again!

159. stephen -
your own faults, fancy paying all that money out for a concert that was clearly never going to happen. he was a sick pathetic old man, 50 concert dates, yeah right, DER DER

160. Jackie -
Would it not be possible for them to refund all but £10? So if a ticket had cost someone £100, refund them £90 and send the ticket.

750,000 x £10? I am sure that they can make their money back - plus a lot more! And it isnt screwing loyal fans over that would feel bad for not taking up the offer!!!
