Jacko: Ticket Or Refund?

Posted Tue 30 Jun 2009 11:47AM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
As millions continue to mourn the death of Michael Jackson across the globe, many fans who bought tickets for the pop superstar's ill-fated "This Is It" dates have also been wondering when or if they will get their money back. Around 800,000 reportedly paid considerable sums to see his much-anticipated but unlikely comeback, which was scheduled to stretch across 50 dates at London's O2 Arena. Today news emerged that the promoters have come up with a novel idea to commemorate his passing.

All fans will be eligible to a refund or can instead sacrifice the money to receive their exclusive ticket, which features a holographic, 3D image of Jackson in one of his iconic, dancing poses. Eight different versions are understood to have been printed and AEG Live say they have been inundated with requests from fans who are eager to keep what are sure to become collector's items and a highly-sought after piece of music memorabilia.

Company president Randy Phillips explained they were keen to make sure people were treated fairly after missing out on the chance to see Michael. "The world lost a kind soul who just happened to be the greatest entertainer the world has ever known", he explained. "Since he loved his fans in life, it is incumbent upon us to treat them with the same reverence and respect after his death." For more information on the refund policy and to view what are said to be the final live shots of Jackson, taken just two days before his death, view the video clip below:

What do you think of AEG's plan? Is it a cheap gimmick or a fitting tribute to Jackson? Will you be seeking a refund or a commemorative ticket? Have your say here...

You can't blame the guy for dying, so when you get a situation like this its tricky, i think giving the fans the choice of refund or ticket soverners is a good idea.

A lot of guys have said its a cop out but nobody seems to have better idea.

The ticket would have meant more had I have gone to the concert. Without that, we should just get a refund, if they have any sense about "looking after the fans", they would just post out the tickets anyway. It's our money they're still after, that's all.

Just a cheap cash in by AEG.

Is a piece of paper worth £80? I read the other day on the newspaper that the O2 is about to lose about 300 million $ as they contracted an insurance on the first 10 dates only. Looks like the O2 wants to get some of it back by not refunding all the tickets...Well thought!!!

These will not become a collectors item becuse there will be so many of them around. indeed they will hold some importance to the owner, but as for making a profit on them in the future, you might as well forget it. We're talking about hundreds of thousands here, so you'd be wise to take you money. I can't but think this is just a scam by the tickeytcompanies to keep a lot of money and making a huge profit by offering out something that is not exclusive at all.

Yeah give the refund and give the ticket too, dont be so tight you make billions out of the fans, give something back and stop trying to still cash in anyway you can. have some respect for the man the music and the fans. go on do something nice, it wont kill you!

by the way I'm not even a fan, but this is my view

Unfortunately some people will take the ticket MJ won't get it but his Father probably will. Personally any money made that would probably end up in his vile Fathers pocket , would be a no for me, money back rather than that man get any of it.

If you don't take the money......your crazy!

This is a cop-out by the corporate big wigs. They will make millions of pounds profit if people accept a ticket that costs a couple GBP to make at the most. the rest goes directly into someones pocket! I think they should recieve the tick aswell as the original ticket and some refund or donate to "Cancer research or Aids or Heart foundation etc"! This way EVERYONE would be happy.

How keep ticket as ticket not come out yet.

i think sharon d is absolutely right!

if they really care about the fans and if they were keen to make sure people were treated fairly after missing out on the chance to see Michael, they should definately refund every single ticket and also let the ticket holder keep that ticket as a tribute!

but the reality is they wont do that cause they want money!

everyone in this world is cruel in some ways, but thats life!

when michael was alive, the media had nothing good to say about him, today when hez gone we start talking how much he went through in life etc!

anyways no point for me to say anything lol cause im nothing and it want even make a difference!

but R.I.P michael jackson.

Depends on how much it will cost from refund for a ticket,if it the whole amount then it is a total scam and AEG are cashing in on the fans, will the money also be donated to charity?
We should receive a ticket ASWELL as the refund,Iam sure that's what Michael would have really wanted,a farewell gift from the King, to his really loyal and devoted fans, not a cash in like AEG seem to be doing.

I see someone has mentioned that all those who bought a ticket to see a Peadophile are getting what they deserve. "SHAME ON YOU." If thats what you beleive thats up to you. But I don't. He was a gentle person who loved children. He may have been gay but he would never have hurt, abused or used a child. Anyway only God knows for sure. Don't judge him. He is gone. May he rest in peace.

I brought a ticket and i am astounded that they havent offered to put on a show on the big screens showing all his performances of the past. I am sure everyone would love this as it gives a proper chance to say goodbye celebrating his music in concert one last time!!!!!

178. khi_s_kake -
Why have the company not putting on a celebration of his work using diffrent artist to do his songs .im sure many artists would love to contribute to his memory.also the SHOW MUST GO ON

179. Yahoo! Music User -
Who will get the cash if people choose to get the ticket instead of a refund - this is just being used as a get out of jail card as AEG only got unsurance for 10 of the 50 concerts!

180. Vicki -
I bought 2 tickets - and I would really like to have them anyway - but I think its unfair that I should sacrifice my £150 for the tickets I already bought, to a show I cannot see.

They should offer the chance to have your ticket AND money back ... especially as many of the ticket buyers for earlier shows would of recieved their tickets by now and able to get their money back ...
