Jackson Goes Home

Posted Wed 1 Jul 2009 1:03PM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
Michael Jackson may not have lived at his fairytale Neverland home for the final four years of his life but it looks as though that's where his final journey will conclude. The Santa Barbara property, a sprawling ranch decorated with the Peter Pan ideals that shielded the singer from the real world, also spanned the highs and lows of his landmark career. It was famously raided by California police, leading to the 2005 child molestation trial which saw Jacko cleared of all charges. But he never returned.

Inevitably, hordes of traumatised fans have been leaving tributes at the site since last Thursday's stunning news and it looks as though Michael will go home tomorrow, a week after his death. According to reports, the pop icon still owns a stake in the land and his body is set to be unveiled for a public viewing on Friday, before the Jackson family hold a private memorial on Sunday. There are claims that he will travel the 150 miles from LA in a "fairytale carriage" before being placed in a glass coffin and could eventually be buried at Neverland, creating a permanent shrine and tourist attraction, much like Elvis Presley's Graceland.

Meanwhile, the promoters of the ill-fated "This Is It" dates have suggested momentum is building for an all-star Jackson memorial concert, using the sets, choreography and costumes created for the O2 Arena residency. Randy Phillips, president of AEG Live, explained: "I imagine if we could do it, it would be done as a tribute, with the family, with the brothers performing and some of the sisters, but also the stars who loved Michael and were influenced by him". Beyonce, Stevie Wonder and Justin Timberlake are amongst those linked with the show, although the latter has insisted it "would have to be done properly".

Do you think Michael Jackson should be buried at Neverland? Would you go and visit his grave? Have your say here...

If it was his last wish, to be buried at Neverland, then why not?! But is it the wish of his family? Surely, if he wanted to be in Neverland, he would have still been living there? God Bless You Michael. Safe from your demonds and tormentors at last. It's just so sad it wasn't ment to be for you in this life. Rest in peace gentle man.
