Bubbles Banned!

Posted Thu 2 Jul 2009 12:41PM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
He's not been seen in the public eye for many years but in the mid-‘80s, Bubbles was Michael Jackson's greatest ally. Not for him a girlfriend/boyfriend. Wacko, a nickname earned because of this peculiar friendship, liked to hang out with a chimp. He was the most famous monkey on Earth. But where is he now? Happily, The Sun, who can always be relied upon to track down MIA showbiz figures, report today that he is holed-up at an animal sanctuary in Florida.

With last week's sudden death of Jackson, many are wondering who will be on the star-studded guest list for the pop superstar's funeral, when it eventually happens, with Bubbles on the tip of most tongues. However it seems he will not be making the emotional journey across America to pay tribute to his former best friend. A spokesman for the Centre For Great Apes confirmed the news, explaining: "It is sad for Bubbles but it is better that he stays here".

The team say they have "not said anything" to the 26-year-old monkey about Michael's death and have not been contacted to see if he has a window in his diary. "There has been no invitation for him to attend the funeral. Maybe we'll mark the occasion another way", said the spokeswoman, who revealed that Bubbles now spends his time painting, listening to music, playing with an older chimp called Sam and practicing the moonwalk. Although we might have made that last bit up.
