Who Are The Sugababes?

Posted Tue 22 Sep 2009 10:38AM BST by Dave Rumour in Snap, Crackle and Pop
So it's true. The Sugababes have achieved something few acts in the 50 plus years of pop'n'roll can claim to. The Temptations, The Drifters, The Supremes and The Velvet Underground are amongst a handful of groups before them that have managed to lose every single original member but stagger on regardless. Confusion surrounded the future of the UK's most successful female group of the 21st century yesterday, amid reports that Amelle Berrabah had been ousted by Keisha Buchanan and Heidi Range.

However, a band statement has now cleared up this spectacular mess. It reads: "The current line-up of the Sugababes has disbanded. Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah will continue as the Sugababes and will be joined by new member Jade Ewen. They release their album ‘Sweet 7' on November 23 through Island Records. Keisha Buchanan will continue to record for Island Records as a solo artist." So that's that sorted then.

Keisha
has cited "a breakdown in communication" and "lack of trust" for the decision, and explained: "Although it was not my choice to leave, it's time to enter a new chapter in my life, I've had a great time and have achieved more then I ever thought I would." She also dismissed suggestions that the third line-up change in their ten-year history was as a result of yet more cat-fights. "I have nothing but positive things to say about the girls and I wish them the best of luck", she explained. Ewan represented the UK's in this year's Eurovision and a recent MOBOs nomination confirms her reputation as a singer with some potential and pedigree. Quite frankly, for the sake of the Sugababes, she would need to be...

7. RICHARD -
Could all the 3 who have left (i.e. the original Sugarbabes) not all reform to create a new group. That would be classic

Stephanie...Thats a really nasty remark to make...I gather ur no oil painting if u need to stoop so low and insult Keisha...
ANYWAY...Keisha leaving,Its not gonna b Sugababes without her, seen as she has been there since day one. She had the strongest voice in the group which u could recognise in ne song without seeing the vid...I give the 'babes at least 6 month b4 the off the scene altogether

No great loss for true music, but probably devastating for lovers of bubblegum, empty trashy pop.

14. Terry -

15. ian -
why dont they just change their name to "the lineup changers" or "the revolving doors"

16. G -

Who gives a to$$ anyway?
They were way overrated, so why all this news about them?
There are more important things in the world to worry about than them.

Ask a child who is abused or suffering from malnutrition what their thoughts are on the Sugerbabes break up.
It might ease their suffering to see that someone is worse off then them.
That is a sarcastic remark BTW.

18. Lynda -
Good luck to her I am sure she will make on her own she has a strong voice.

19. EDDIE -
I agree with other comments. Keisha has been the one keeping Sugababes at the top. I am a big fan, espicially as she comes from my neck of the woods

20. COLIN -
It will eventually come out that none of them can sing and it was a bunch of kareoke singers from the dog and duck doing it. They should roll it out as a franchise, you could have your own sugarbabe in every town, thats a scary thought!
