Cheryl Cole: Record-Breaker

Posted Tue 20 Oct 2009 4:23PM BST by Johnny Famethrowa in Touching The Void
In the aftermath of Cheryl Cole's controversial and explosive appearance on the "X-Factor" this weekend, the questions just keep on coming: Did she mime or didn't she? Was Whitney Houston's "wardrobe malfunction" an inside job, designed to make the show's favourite judge look even better? And where did she get those trousers!? Well, one thing is for sure. Simon Cowell called Cole's debut solo performance "incredible", which counts for more column inches than a cheeky bit of lip-synching.

It also perhaps explains the record-breaking first day sales of "Fight For This Love", which hit stores yesterday. It is apparently taking current Number One Alexandra Burke to the cleaners, after shifting almost 200,000 copies on Monday alone. "This will be the second successive week of massive single sales - led by Cheryl. Her first day's sales are just amazing and put her in pole position to top the Official Singles Chart on Sunday", said Official Charts Company Managing Director Martin Talbot this afternoon. Making this surely the biggest track of 2009...

Only Nadine and Nicola can really sing out of Girl's Aloud. Cheryl's performance was good last weekend on the X-factor, but she is not a good singer who deserves the no. 1 spot! Its publicity hype once again!

Have we become a generation of bad taste for music?

I think it was fairly obvious she was singing live! It was clear the poor dear was very nervous and I think it's about time she stopped getting so much stick!! She's a great role model and a lovely person!

pre-recorded on Saturday - def! did you see how out of breath she was at the end of the perfomance?? There was no way she danced like that and sounded as though she wasn't breathless at all! The song would be very good if a singer with a better talent than Cheryl was to sing it - I have nothing against Cheryl but she is not a good solo artist, she is using her popularity as a judge on the show to catapult her single... disgraceful!
