Brits Takeover Grammys

The main headlines made by the acts on home turf came from Chris Brown and ‘secret' girlfriend Rihanna, who mysteriously pulled out at the last minute. Both were due to play live at the event but it emerged today that Brown had been arrested on the morning of the ceremony and has now been freed amid allegations of domestic battery. A police report claims he was involved in an altercation with a woman, "who suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker." Meanwhile, back at the bash, proceedings were kicked-off by U2, with their new single, "Get On Your Boots".
The business end of the evening saw former Led Zeppelin icon Plant seal his shift away from the hellraising rock antics of his previous band to claim five prizes, including Album Of The Year for "Raising Sand", his collaboration with Alison Krauss. Coldplay took three gongs and thanked Sir Paul McCartney from the stage, as they accepted their statues in new jackets inspired by The Beatles' "Sgt Pepper's" outfits. "We've never had so many Grammys in our life. We feel so grateful to be here. I'm going to tear up", Chris Martin told the crowd.
Elsewhere, Adele and Duffy celebrated a breathtaking first 12 months in pop. "Thank you so much. I'm going to cry", Adele blubbed after collecting the Best New Artist gong and paying tribute to the Welsh starlet, who took home Pop Vocal Album prize. "I love you. I think you're amazing", said the Londoner. Lil Wayne, who had been nominated eight times, salvaged a little local pride, taking four awards for new album "Tha Carter III", although Estelle and Kanye West beat him to Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for their "American Boy" duet. It sealed a triumphant night for British acts, who must now be planning a repeat in London on February 19.

If you have ever listened to any old Led Zeppelin albums you will know that Robert Plant has always sung some gentle acoustic, folk and country songs. Plant was never just a rock belter. Led Zeppelin albums were full of quiet folky acoustic songs.
