Are Oasis Fans Stupid?

Posted Fri 13 Mar 2009 4:38PM GMT by Johnny Famethrowa in Touching The Void
Famethrowa has cowered amongst Oasis fanatics at the Watford Colosseum, as they bellowed, burped, farted and fought to their anthemic indie slog. I have also watched transfixed as Sufjan Stevens enraptured a room full of far milder people in an Icelandic church, wearing wings and backed by strings and horns. Obviously, there is a difference. In fact, a new survey claims that fans of the Gallagher brothers are simply not as clever as those who like the US pop composer, let alone followers of Radiohead, Coldplay, U2 and Snow Patrol.

Virgil Griffith
, an American researcher, is behind the findings, which have been brought together in his "Music That Makes You Dumb" study. Noel and Liam don't actually come out at the bottom of the poll. That brain dead honour belongs to the audiences of Lil Wayne, with Beyonce's slightly ahead. But just how did he come up with these arguably rather dubious findings? "I've listened to artists and afterwards thought to myself, 'Wow... loving this rubbish says a lot about someone and how much they've got going on in their head'", explained Griffith.

He continued: "Could one's musical tastes say something about intelligence? How about SAT scores? Well, like any good scientist, I decided to see how well my personal experience matches reality." So he used the test results of a selection of US students for his findings, cross-checked against Facebook stats on the music tastes of each college, before collating them into an impressive and initially rather baffling chart, which you can view HERE. The fact that Noel Gallagher has been making the same album for a decade and yet people continue to lap it up like lobotomised sheep would certainly suggest Griffith has a point, don't you think?

although noel is very witty and opinionated,he is also up himself.
i agree about the same record for ten years,he's also a one riff wonder, the best sound his guitar made was when he was pushed off the stage.hold on,he could write a whole album based around that open chord.

There are 1 or 2 good songs from the Beatles wannabes.
Nothing to warrant more than 1 album though.
Well, I've said it before and I'll say it again - It takes sales of music to keep a band or a solo artist on top and if they're crap then more fool the fans!
Then again, it could be just that we all have different tastes?

STUPID!!! They write thier own songs with deep and meaning lyrics. Not like most of rubbish on radio you hear. Noel believes in himself and so he should. I'd be self rightous if i was as good as them. If you said you wouldn't youre lying!!!
