At the end of last week, news emerged that Cheryl Cole and Nicole Scherzinger are eyeing careers away from Girls Aloud and the Pussycat Dolls. The already over-populated pop charts look about to receive two further guests but they would probably both do well to consider the self-confessed train wreck that is Lily Allen, who has just returned from the UK after bulldozing her way through America. It takes a lot to make it as a solo artist and, as Lily continues to show, there will be casualties.

Currently promoting well-received new album, "It's Not me, It's You", the singer brought down the curtain on the US leg of the dates in typically spectacular style. The penultimate gig of the tour saw a "really drunk" Allen propose to one of the members of Kings Of Leon over the phone, although she still has no idea which one. "We played in Boston on the same night. I wanted to see them", she said of the Followhill clan. But that feat of daftness was soon topped in Toronto on the final night of the North American jaunt.

Lily is constantly on Twitter, which gives everyone the opportunity to read news of her latest scrape. "Had a massive ice cream fight, dressing room based, cost me $2,000. End of tour, time to get mashed", she explained following a riotous gig at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. Of course, the key to Lily Allen's success, which Cole and Scherzinger must quickly learn, is the music that goes with the carnage. Cracking new single "Not Fair" is still in the UK Top 10 weeks after coming out digitally ahead of next month's official release. She must be doing something right...
