Original Childhood Material

Posted Wed 29 Apr 2009 9:02AM BST by Johnny Famethrowa in Touching The Void
We've all seen footage of precocious child stars grinning inanely like pint-sized idiots on TV, as they become hypnotised by the idea of fame long before they really know what it means or what it might do to them. Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Cheryl Cole, Justin Timberlake and Amy Winehouse are just five of the now international music celebrities to have taken a bow before the big screen as kids, much to our amusement and their eternal shame and embarrassment. Well to that list, we can now add Mike Skinner, otherwise known as The Streets.

The difference here is that it is apparently Skinner himself who has leaked what is surely amongst the funniest of these pre-superstardom clips seen in recent years. The video below of him performing "I Am Henry The Eighth, I Am" was apparently shot in around 1984, when he was just six-years-old, and requires few words from Famethrowa to explain. Skinner should take particular pride in his magnificent, Brian Jones-esque bowl haircut as well as the whizzer & chips dance moves towards the end. If Mike really is "f*cking sick of The Streets", surely this gives him the best reason he could ever need to retire?
