Morrissey Is 50

After Prince, Madonna and Michael Jackson, it is time once again to raise a toast to one of our greatest pop idols turning 50. Steven Patrick Morrissey, aka Morrissey, may have today reached the same landmark as his American contemporaries but as one of British music's most eccentric and loved/loathed stars, that's where the similarities end. Years after The Smiths split, he is a national treasure, but can anyone really see the Queen recognising that fact on her next honours list? Not that Morrissey would attend such a ghastly love-in anyway."I was bored before I even began", he sang on "Shoplifters Of The World Unite" back in 1987 and Famethrowa can't help but wonder if his five decade long supposed love affair with misery will prevent a celebration on this historic day? "Age shouldn't affect you. You're either marvellous or you're boring, regardless of your age", he himself once quipped and in a week that he confirmed plans for yet more live dates later in 2009, it seems unlikely we will be seeing the back of Morrissey anytime soon. So, let's raise our glasses to "This Charming Man". They don't make them like this anymore...
